Edrie Voigt Moore

VALDOSTA — Edrie Voigt Moore, 95, of Valdosta died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at Woodlands at Cobblestone after a lengthy illness.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta with the Rev. V.L. Daughtery and Pastor Randy Jackson officiating.

Born in Lake City, Fla., Mrs. Moore was the daughter of the late George and Birdie Voigt. She was a homemaker and a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church in Valdosta.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Moore.

Survivors include a son, Alan Moore and wife Susan of Moultrie; a grandson, Paul Moore and wife Carol of Columbus, Miss.; a sister, Cecelia Hiers of Valdosta; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Virginia Rigby

WATKINSVILLE — Virginia Rigby, 79, of Watkinsville died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens.

Memorial services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, at Oconee Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Northcutt, the Rev. L.M. Addison and the Rev. Jonathan Robinson officiating. Interment followed at Oconee Memorial Park.

Survivors include three children, Andy Rigby of Watkinsville and David Rigby and Debra Gasaway, both of Winder.

Julia Ann Florence Gardner

MOULTRIE — Julia Ann Florence Gardner, 81, of Moultrie died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at Park Regency of Moultrie.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, at Westview Cemetery. The Rev. Larry Bird officiated.

Born Sept. 12, 1923, in Powder Springs, Mrs. Gardner was the daughter of the late Mason Jones Florence and the late Ethel Butner Florence. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Gardner grew up in Cedartown and attended Agnes Scott College and The University of Georgia. Arriving as a bride in Moultrie in 1947, she became active in several community service organizations. Mrs. Gardner was particularly proud of her participation, through the Moultrie Service League, in establishing the Speech and Hearing Center. Ironically, she experienced severe hearing loss during the last 25 years of her life.

Mrs. Gardner was devoted to her family and extended family. Supporting her children’s activities, she was at various times a “swim mom,” a Brownie troop leader and a choir booster. She organized numerous beach trips and reunions for extended family and members of the neighborhood.

She was employed with the Department of Family and Children Services for a dozen years beginning in the early 1970s.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Gardner; a grandson, Kirk Blackburn Oliver Jr.; a brother, Harold Florence; and a sister, Frances Florence Bentley.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Sam J. Gardner Jr. of Moultrie; one son, Samuel J. Gardner III of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Florence Gardner Calhoun of Jacksonville, Fla., and Caroline Gardner Oliver of Athens; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Brooks Calhoun, Robert Knight Calhoun and Caroline Florence Calhoun, all of Jacksonville; two sisters, Christine Florence Houseal of Fripp Island, S.C., and Wilma Florence Darbyshire of Moultrie; a brother-in-law, Upshaw Bentley of Athens; a sister-in-law, Celeste Norris Florence of Trion; and twelve nieces and nephews.

The family requests that any memorials be made to a favorite charity.

Lakeysha Severson

MOULTRIE — Lakeysha Severson, 8, of Moultrie died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Luke Strong and Son Mortuary.



Reedus Tollie Sanderson

DOERUN — Reedus Tollie Sanderson, 80, of Doerun died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at Sunrise Nursing Home in Moultrie.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Doerun First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Doerun Cemetery.

Born Nov. 21, 1924, in Marion County, Ala., Mr. Sanderson was the son of the late Lovie Burks Sanderson and the late R.G. Sanderson. He was the owner of Sanderson Construction and a member of Doerun First Baptist Church. He was a former Doerun city councilman, a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Doerun American Legion. Mr. Sanderson was also an avid gardener and fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Madie Dorothy Reese Sanderson, and a brother, Jack Sanderson.

Survivors include a son, Tommy Sanderson and wife Karen of Moultrie; three daughters, Connie Everett and husband Roy and Carol Campbell and husband Mike, all of Doerun, and Cathy Franklin and husband Randy of Mocksville, N.C.; four sisters, Beatrice Blackwell of Warwick, Bernice Reynolds of Lee County and Bertie Watson and Robbie Gunn, both of Albany; a sister-in-law, Agnus Sanderson of Albany; a special friend, Jack Tumlin of Doerun; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Addie Rebecca Green Baker

CROSLAND — Addie Rebecca Green Baker, 93, of Crosland died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, in Moultrie.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Crosland Baptist Church with the Rev. Jackie Cabiness officiating. Burial will follow at Crosland Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Joey Roberts, Sonny Baker, Don Roberts, Milan Waggoner, Trey Dennis, Matthew Dennis and Mike Pearce.

Born Jan. 5, 1912, in Irwin County, Mrs. Baker was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Green. She was a homemaker and a member of Crosland Baptist Church. Family members said that she was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Warren Clark; her second husband, Bobbie Baker; a son, Warren Clark, a daughter, Imogene Clark; five brothers, Bernard, Ollie, Bollie, Joe and John Green; and five sisters, Winnie Lapov, Maude Roland, Lena Walker, Rubye Goins and Annie Tucker.

Survivors include two daughters, LaVerne D. Rogers of Moultrie and Rebecca B. Jordan of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Wiley Clark of Norman Park; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a special grandgodson, Ty Barber.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at Harrell-Faircloth Funeral Home.

Louise Wells Giles

TY TY — Louise Wells Giles, 82, of Ty Ty died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at Sunrise Nursing Home in Moultrie.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at First Baptist Church in Ty Ty. Burial will follow at Tift Memorial Gardens in Tifton.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors, Tiftarea Chapel in Tifton.

Clyde Ray McCutcheon

CARROLLTON — The Rev. Clyde Ray “C.R.” McCutcheon, 96, of Carrollton died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today in the Chapel of Almon Funeral Home in Carrollton with the Rev. Steve Davis and the Rev. John Riley officiating. Interment will follow in Carroll Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Judson Bell, William Bell, Daniel Denney, Lee Campbell, Nat Shackelford, Don Smith and James Gordon.

The Rev. McCutcheon was born Jan. 3, 1909, in Little Rock, Ark., but grew up and attended the public schools in Atlanta and College Park. After working various jobs as a young man during the Depression, he married Ophelia Barrett in 1932 and began selling life insurance for American National Life. He became a general sales manager and later deputy superintendent for the Atlanta region with American National.

After years of serving as a deacon at Mercer Avenue Baptist in College Park and lay speaker at various churches, he was ordained into the ministry in 1946 and called to serve as a bi-vocational pastor at Live Oak Gardens Baptist Church in College Park. In 1947, he quit his insurance business and began serving in full-time ministry.

In 1948, he enrolled at Norman College in Norman Park and served as a student pastor at Big Creek Baptist in Thomas County. At Norman College, he was salutatorian of his class and president of the honor society and the ministerial association. He later served as a trustee of Norman College.

He served as pastor of New Bethel Baptist Church in Colquitt County and Greenville Baptist Church in Greenville, his longest pastorate, from 1954 to1971. He served for several terms as moderator of the Western Baptist Association, which included Meriwether and Coweta counties.

He served as regular and interim pastor of Roopville, Abilene, Antioch, Mars Hill and Midway Macedonia churches in Carroll County. He was also a member of First Baptist Church in Carrollton since 1976.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 71 years, Ophelia McCutcheon; and a brother, Virgil O. McCutcheon.

He is survived by a son, the Rev. Steve McCutcheon and wife Cynthia of Carrollton; a brother, Roy L. McCutcheon of Apopka, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Parker of Fayetteville and Myrtice Teate of Starke, Fla.; a granddaughter, Stephanie Dunlap and husband Sammy of Barnesville; and numerous nephews and nieces.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m. today at Almon Funeral Home.
