Thelma C. Sharpe

SPARKS — Ms. Thelma C. Sharpe, 91, of Sparks died Friday, April 16, 2004, at Berrien County Hospital in Nashville.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 18, at the chapel of Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home with the Rev. Dillard Ensley and the Rev. Wayne Mitchell officiating. Burial was at Sparks City Cemetery.

Survivors include two sisters, Merle Mitchell of Adel and Vera Hughes of Moultrie.

Panzzie Bentley

MOULTRIE — Mrs. Panzzie Bentley, 44, of Moultrie died Saturday, April 17, 2004, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, April 23, at Greater Newton Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. C.L. Ponder III officiating. Burial will be held in St. James Pallbearers Cemetery No. 2. Friends will serve as pallbearers.

Born April 15, 1959, in Colquitt County, Mrs. Bentley was the daughter of Naomi Toomer Breland and the late Major Breland Sr.

She was preceded in death by her father, Major Breland Sr.; one son, Ulysees Quimbley Jr.; one stepdaughter, Shermanitte Bentley; two brothers, Major Breland Jr. and Michael Breland; and one sister, Gwendolyn Breland.

Survivors include her husband, Marvin Bentley of Moultrie; her mother, Naomi Toomer Breland of Moultrie; one daughter, Shontara L. Breland of Moultrie; four stepchildren, Sherman Bentley, Sherita Bentley, Sherrick Bentley and Sherlina Bentley, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; four brothers, Eddie Breland and wife Janet, Tony B. Breland, Ricky Breland and Nathaniel Walker and wife Linda, all of Moultrie; three sisters, Patricia Ponder and husband Thomas, Cheryl Breland and Lawanda Kinsey and husband Thomas, all of Moultrie; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bentley of Immokala, Fla.; one grandchild, Nakeyah Breland of Moultrie; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

Freddie Lee Williams

LITHONIA — Mr. Freddie Lee Williams, 53, of Lithonia died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at his residence.

Arrangements will be announced by Luke Strong and Son Mortuary.



Mae Hancock

LENOX — Mrs. Mae Hancock, 87, of Lenox died Monday, April 19, 2004, at Pine Shadows Retirement Manor in Sylvester.

Services will be held at 4 p.m. today at Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dwayne Atkinson, the Rev. Joe Crumbley and the Rev. Jimmie Hinson officiating. Burial will follow at Lenox City Cemetery.

Born Feb. 21, 1917, in Cook County, Mrs. Hancock was the daughter of the late Joseph Sandy Griner and Dovie Jane Baker Griner. She lived in Cook County all of her life and retired from B.C. Moore’s. She was a member of Eldorado Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Oren Hancock; and three brothers, Arthur, Jobie and Lunza Hancock.

Survivors include one son, Jim Hancock and wife June of Inman, S.C.; two daughters, Carolyn Hinson and husband Bobby of Omega and Dolores Howell of Sylvester; a special nephew, Cohen Jones; a special niece, Dovie Sumner; 11 grandchildren, Lennon Howell of Moultrie, Cheryl Hendricks of Sylvester, Lee Howell of Albany, Greg Hancock of Oregon, Rebecca Hancock of South Carolina, Paul Johnson, Diane Johnson and Carmie Johnson, all of Inman, Carol Sumner of Tifton and Sherry Stephens and Gene Hinson, both of Omega; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Donald Thomas Walker Sr.

DOERUN — Mr. Donald Thomas Walker Sr., 63, of Doerun died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at his residence.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 22, at Cool Springs Baptist Church in Sale City with the Rev. Roy Carroll officiating. Interment will follow at Cool Springs Cemetery with military honors. Casketbearers will be Randolph Gibbs, Carol Brown, Mike Demott, Jimmy Proctor, Darrell Simmons and Mark Mobley.

Born April 14, 1941, in Waycross, Mr. Walker was the son of Agatha Goddard and the late E.T. Walker. He was retired from the civil service with the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany and was also retired from the Army National Guard, where he attained the rank of first sergeant. Mr. Walker served in the Marines during Vietnam. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Doerun and attended Cool Springs Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Doerun.

Survivors include his wife, Carlene Walker of Doerun; a son, Donald Thomas Walker Jr. of Doerun; a daughter, Jackie Mise and husband Richard of Moultrie; his mother, Agatha Goddard of Waycross; a brother, Eddie Walker of Baxley; three sisters, Judy Knowlton of Blackshear, Tammy Jarrolds of Waycross and Peggy Morris of Monongahela, Pa.; and three grandchildren, Misty Ivey, Alison Mise and Sara Walker.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral chapel.

‘B.T.’ Hawke

HAHIRA — “B.T.” Hawke, 72, of Hahira died on Monday, April 19, 2004, at Bryan Center in Jeffersonville.

Born on Oct. 27, 1931, in Morgan, Mr. Hawke was the son of the late John Thomas and Mary Alice Mims Hawke. He was a carpenter and a Baptist. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Robin Hawke of Hahira; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Darrell Folsom of Hahira; two grandsons, Joshua Hawke and Sam Hawke of Hahira; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice and Benny Bradford of Adel, Sybil and Matt Hayman of Moultrie, Sue and John Fulgham of Doerun and Sarah and T.J. Ogelsby of Covington; one brother, Wayne Hawke of Sale City; one brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Billie Hawke of Augusta; one sister-in-law, Brenda Hawke of Hahira; one brother-in-law, Lonnie Davis of Albany; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hawke was preceded in death by his wife, Miriam Myree King Hawke; three sisters, Frances Davis, Ann Conley and Beatrice Norton; and two brothers, Ray Hawke and Calvin Hawke.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 22, in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Lawrence will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira from 7 to 9 tonight.
