James (Jimmy) Barkley Merritt II

MOULTRIE — James (Jimmy) Barkley Merritt II, 32, of Moultrie died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, in Morven.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 14, in the chapel of Arlington Park Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Fla.

A candlelight service will be held from 7-9 p.m. today at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Sain, 2385 Georgia Highway 37 East.

Survivors include his wife, Dana Delp; a daughter, Kayli Alexis Merritt; his parents, James and Shirley Merritt; and a sister, Marika Ammons.

Memorials may be sent to 315 15th St. S.E., Apt. C-18, Moultrie.

Loren Garwood Briggs Jr.

MOULTRIE — Loren Garwood Briggs Jr., 84, of Moultrie, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, at Harrell-Faircloth Funeral Home with the Revs. Ronnie Wills and Ron Shiver officiating. Burial will be in Pinecrest Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Michael Garwood Briggs, Mark Wheeler Briggs, Jeffrey Luke Briggs, Gene Hiers, Pete Griffin and Tommy Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Vereen, Jessie Coffee, Donald Ruis, Dayton Boozer, Billy Fallin, Stephanie Johnson, Terry Sutton, Tony Howard, Tony Huber, John Rowley, Joe Sumner and Ben Thomas.

Born July 19, 1917, in Fulton County, Mr. Briggs was the son of the late Loren Garwood Briggs Sr. and Jessie Garland Jones Briggs. He was the former owner of Briggs Auto Parts, which he founded in 1954, and was a member of First United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by a son, John Garwood Briggs.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Lee Briggs of Moultrie; a son, Jeffrey Lee Briggs and wife Sherry of Moultrie; a daughter-in-law, Robbie Briggs of Moultrie; a brother, William Briggs and wife Louise of Atlanta; a sister, Jean Wear and husband W.T. of Atlanta; six grandchildren, Michael Garwood Briggs and wife Joy, Mark Wheeler Briggs and wife Mary, Jeffrey Luke Briggs, Shannon Briggs, Aimee Casteel and husband Brian and Shana Hart and husband Scott; and nine great-grandchildren, Jordan Newsome, Julia Briggs, Thomas Garwood Briggs, Elizabeth Briggs, Wheeler Briggs, Megan Hill, Max Casteel, Jake Hart and Jed Hart.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice.

Clarence L. Gaines

MOULTRIE — Clarence L. Gaines, 70, of Moultrie, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at his residence.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, at Pineview Baptist Church with the Revs. Preston Norman, Tommy Morgan and Paul Peace officiating. Burial will be in Pineview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Joyner, Ronnie Gaines, Danny Chastain, Joey Sloan, Tony Buckner and David Kimbrell. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Pineview Church.

Born Oct. 31, 1931, in Colquitt County, Mr. Gaines was the son of the late Y.H Gaines and Jewel Alma Butler Gaines. He worked in the maintenance department at the Georgia Baptist Conference Center in Norman Park. He was a veteran of the Coast Guard and was a member of Pineview Baptist Church where he was a deacon.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Billy U. Gaines, and a sister, Marie G. Butler.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Melton Gaines of Moultrie; a son, Joshua Wayne Melton of Coolidge; a daughter, Pam Gaines Rogers and husband Buck of Moultrie; brothers, Morris Gaines and wife Betty and Bernard Gaines and wife Juanita, all of Moultrie; sisters, Norma G. Joyner and Juanita G. Sloan and husband Tim of Moultrie, Betty G. Chastain of Live Oak, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Ione Price Gaines of Moultrie; and three grandchildren, Matthew Rogers, Adrianne Rogers and Haylee Rogers.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. tonight at the funeral chapel.

Memorials may be made to the Pineview Baptist Church Building Fund.

MOULTRIE — Ruby Roberson Davis, 89, of Moultrie, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at Archbold Memorial Hos

Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, at Oakridge Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Winfred Roberson, Murray Roberson, Mickey Roberson, Randy Ogletree, Irvin McDaniel and Elwood McDaniel.

Born Aug. 15, 1912, in Paulding County, Mrs. Davis was the daughter of the late Benjamin Erving Roberson and Nancy Rosa Lee Baxter Roberson. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Moultrie, where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She was a member of Cherokee Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bennie Roberson, J.T. Roberson, Hershel Roberson, Dewey Roberson and Cecil Roberson; her sisters, Josephine Lawhon and Vennie McDaniel; and a stepson, Hamp Davis Jr.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Mary Louise Davis Gavigan of Moultrie; stepgrandchildren, Steven Gavigan of Savannah, Robert Gavigan of St. George Island, Fla., and Hamp Davis III of Moultrie; and 13 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
