Roger Bobby Maddox
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Roger Bobby Maddox, 53, of Charlotte, N.C., died Friday, March 14, 2003, in North Carolina.
Services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Funston with the Rev. J.W. Green Jr. officiating. Burial will be in St. James Pallbearers Cemetery No. 2. Pallbearers will be Willie Victum, Antonio Bonner, Grady Parrish, Bobby Dyer, Ricky Jacobs and Buddy Bee.
Born June 7, 1949, in Colquitt County, Mr. Maddox was the son of the late Richard Maddox and Doshie Maddox. He was a businessman and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Richard Maddox Jr., A.D. Maddox, Willie James and Robert Maddox.
Survivors include his wife, Doretha Maddox; four sons, Roger Dean Maddox, Bobby Dyer, Mallory Walker Maddox and Nicky Maddox; daughters, Laverne (Pshaun) Barber, Sheila Barber (Dyer), Mary Maddox, Tracey Maddox, Teresa Maddox, Michelle Maddox, Kellie Jill Maddox, Kimberly Maddox and Tanita Blakely; brothers, Freddie Lee Mathis and wife Daise Lee Mathis of Sale City, Aurtha Lee Maddox and wife Linda Maddox; sisters, Ethelene M. Parrish and husband Grady Parrish, Mattie Ruth Bonner and husband R.J., Margin Maddox Jaurequi, Joan Dunn and husband Elmo Dunn, and Debra Shorter; 14 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Martha Gilmore Ewer
MOULTRIE — Martha Gilmore Ewer, 90, of Moultrie died Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at her residence.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, at Westview Cemetery with Dr. Hugh Ward officiating.
Born Sept. 3, 1912, in Colquitt County, Mrs. Ewer was the daughter of the late Bessie Lawrence Gilmore and Hugh Mathis Gilmore. She was a nurse with Rest Awhile Nursing Home for 20 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee James Ewer; two sons, John Ewer and Roddy Ewer; a grandchild, John Mathis Ewer Jr.; a brother, Bill Gilmore; and a sister, Cecil Bowers.
Survivors include a son, Jack Ewer of Atlanta; a daughter, Martha Mae “Sister” Ewer of Moultrie; five grandchildren, Demisha Croft and Sandy Lee Bracklin, both of Berlin, Jack Ewer Jr., James Ewer and Joy Ewer, all of Atlanta; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. tonight at the funeral chapel.

Kenneth Eugene Sharpe
MOULTRIE — Kenneth Eugene Sharpe, 63, of Moultrie died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Knoxville, Tenn.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Revs. Barry Perez and Winston Baker officiating.
Born Oct. 20, 1939, in Chastworth, Mr. Sharpe was the son of the late Helen Geneva Green Sharpe Isaacks and Homer Clifford Sharpe. He was the owner/operator of TriState Optical and was of the Protestant faith.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Sally Sharpe.
Survivors include his wife, Judy A. Wheeless Sharpe of Moultrie; sons, Kenneth Lee Sharpe and wife Regina of Knoxville, Tenn., Edward Carl Sharpe and wife Terri of Longview, Wash., Homer Clifford Sharpe and wife Brenda of Moultrie, and Michael James Sharpe of Panama City; brothers, Donald Sharp and Edward Sharp, both of Cleveland, Tenn.; sisters, Carolyn Thomas of Cleveland, Tenn., and Regina Harkins of Andalusia, Ala.; 12 grandchildren, Brandy Sharpe, Kenneth Sharpe and fiancee Shawnee Franklin, Lowell Wayne McFarland, Cassandra Maxzine Powell, James Lamarr Butler, Lee Murray Chitty, Drew Sharpe, Zack Sharpe, Clifford Sharpe, Misty Cannon and husband Jason, Amanda Davis and fiance Joel, and Michael Sharpe; and five great-grandchildren, Kelsey Sharpe, Jason Sharpe, Lauren Cannon, Chase Cannon and Leighton Collins.

Agnes Lorene Young Benefield
MOULTRIE — Agnes Lorene Young Benefield, 87, of Moultrie died Thursday, March 20, 2003, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Jessie Benefield and Jerry Deans officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Benefield III, Jessie Benefield Jr., Sidney E. Benefield II, Enoch Benefield Jr., Darrell Griffin, Ted Austin, Robert Kendrick Jr., Acie Carlton Dowling Jr. and Harold Royce Kelly Jr.
Born Nov. 7, 1915, in Tift County, Mrs. Benefield was the daughter of the late Lee Ola Fletcher Young and Charles Daniel Young. She was a homemaker and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. John Barnard Benefield Sr.; a daughter, Christine B. Kelley; a sister, Sara Zeigleman; and brothers, Ples D. Young and J.C. Young.
Survivors include sons, John Benefield Jr. and wife June of Camilla, Sidney Benefield and wife June of Cedartown, Jessie Benefield and wife Donna of Valdosta, Enoch Benefield Sr. and wife Rose of Donalsonville, and James Benefield and wife Kay of Moultrie; daughters, Betty B. Griffin and husband Buddy of Moultrie, Judy B. Hall and husband Bobby of Perry, Fla., Nadine B. Miller of Dudley, Sybil B. Dowling and husband Acie of Yulee, Fla., Reba B. Kendrick and husband Charlie of Zebulon, Jackie Lynn Benefield and Cindy Benefield, both of Tallahassee, Fla.; a son-in-law, Harold Kelly of Havana, Fla.; brothers, Bobby Young and Ronnie Young, both of Moultrie; sisters, Lavera Griffin, Louise Wiley, Leda Mae Freeman, Lucille Murphy, Faye Patterson and Linda Strickland, all of Moultrie and Laurie Austin of Meigs; 32 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

MOULTRIE — Wilfred J. “Bill” Schneider, 73, of Moultrie died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at Shands Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Duretta (Dee) Schneider of Moultrie; children, Ivy Stewart and husband Billie of Lake Wales, Fla., Lawrence Schneider of Ocala, Fla., Wilfred L. Schneider of Orlando, Fla., Wayne Schneider of California, and Laurel Cotton of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and eight grandchildren.
Kay Louise Redfearn Demott
CAMILLA — Kay Louise Redfearn Demott, 40, of Camilla died Thursday, March 20, 2003, in Camilla.

Frances Norwood
MOULTRIE — Mrs. Frances Norwood, 102, of Moultrie died Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at Magnolia Manor South Nursing Center.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, at Mother Easter Baptist Church with the Rev. Emory Hopkins officiating and Supt. Paul Hayes and the Rev. J.W. Greene officiating. Burial will be in St. James Pallbearers Cemetery No. 2. Pallbearers will be the deacons of Mother Easter Baptist Church.
Born March 19, 1901, in Jones County, Mrs. Norwood was the daughter of the late Emanuel Dobson and Janie Dobson. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three nieces, Mrs. Ruthie Bell and Mrs. Mary L. Sampson, both of Moultrie, and Mrs. Mae Frances Jones of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Anna Dobson and Mrs. Rosie Lee West of Jacksonville, Fla.; a great-niece, Belinda Gail Hicks of Moultrie; four great-nephews, John E. Dobson, Kyle D. Hicks, Jordan T. Hicks and Bill Hicks; and a host of other great-nieces and nephews.

John Charles Whisnant
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — John Charles Whisnant, 56, of Tallahassee, Fla., died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Stadium Drive in Tallahassee.
Survivors include his wife, Marium Clark Whisnant; two daughters, Vicky Irwin and Robin Whisnant; four brothers, Bill Whisnant, Hank Whisnant, Tom Whisnant and Wayne Whisnant; a sister, Nancy Franks; and two grandchildren.

DOERUN — Edna Lightfoot Causey and her son Steve R. Causey of Doerun died early Thursday morning, March 20, 2003, as a result of the storm that moved through Worth County during the early morning hours.

Mae Z. Mons
MOULTRIE — Mae Z. Mons, 83, of Moultrie died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at Sunrise Nursing Home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, at Luke Strong and Son Mortuary Chapel with Elder Joe Roberts officiating. Burial will be in St. James Pallbearers Cemetery No. 1. Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
Born July 2, 1919, in Terrell County, Mrs. Mons was the daughter of the late Will Murray and Mary Elizabeth Murray. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Mons; three brothers, Junior Murray, Willie Murray and Nathaniel Murray; two sisters, Alice Mae Murphy and Louise Murray.
Survivors include a brother, Johnny Murray of Moultrie; a sister, Lola Mae King and husband Will of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
