Joseph Mitchell Jr.

COOLIDGE — Joseph Mitchell Jr., 76, of Coolidge, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at Archbold Memorial Hospital.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, at Silver Hill Baptist Church in Coolidge with the Revs. Earnest Scott Jr. and C.L. Ponder Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Strong Memorial Garden in Moultrie. His cousins will serve as pallbearers.

Born Aug. 22, 1925, in Thomas County, Mr. Mitchell was the son of the late Joseph Mitchell Sr. and Annie Bell Mitchell. He was a veteran of World War II and was retired from the fertilizer plant in Coolidge. He was a member of Silver Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Mitchell of Coolidge; three brothers, Johnny Mitchell and John David Mitchell, both of Coolidge, and Elex Mitchell and wife Audry of Huntington, N.Y.; six nephews, Ronnie Mitchell of Coolidge, Willie Mitchell of Atlanta, Heath Mitchell of Colorado Springs, Colo., David Mitchell of Atlanta, Shawn Mitchell and Eric Mitchell of Los Angeles, Calif.; five nieces, Rosa Marilyn Mitchell of Jacksonville, Fla., Cheryl Mitchell and Altha Mitchell, both of Huntington, N.Y., Debbie Mitchell of Los Angeles, Calif., and Sheila Mitchell of Coolidge; two aunts, Eunice Mitchell and Alberta Mitchell of Thomasville; a great friend, Willie Rene Blount of Coolidge; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Beltran DeJesus Roblero Morales

ELLENTON — Beltran DeJesus Roblero Morales, 29, of Ellenton died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Cobb Funeral Chapel.



John Hailey Tabor

THOMASVILLE — John Hailey Tabor, 64, of Thomasville, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville.

Services will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, at Reedy Creek Baptist Church. Burial will be in Reedy Creek Cemetery.

Born March 11, 1937, in Colquitt County, Mr. Tabor was the son of the late John Hailey Tabor and Pearlie Mae Tabor Henderson. He was a retired brick mason and a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Omega.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Bryant.

Survivors include his former wife, JoAnn Stanaland Tabor of Thomasville; a son, Scott Hailey Tabor of Thomasville; daughters, Sharon Lynette Bell of Woodville, Jeannie Tabor Brand of Jackson, Judy Tabor Watson of Marion, Ark., and Cheryl Tabor Kent of Boston; sisters, Mary Ann Jones and Geraldine Davis, both of Conyers, Bonnie Smith of Social Circle, Sarah Harrelson of Athens and Carolyn Hancock of Hartsfield; and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. tonight at the Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Betty June Smith

MARTINEZ — Betty June Smith, 60, of Martinez died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, at Westover Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Amos A. Smith; a son, Dr. Allen C. Smith; a daughter, Nancy S. Eason; seven grandchildren; her mother, Estelle Flowers; a brother, Bill Flowers; sisters, Patricia Mercer of Moultrie and Bonnie Flowers.

Alvin Hayes Johnson

MOULTRIE — Alvin Hayes Johnson, 83, of Moultrie, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Baptist Hospital of Worth County.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. J.E. Moak officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery.

Born April 28, 1918, in Colquitt County, Mr. Johnson was the son of the late Mamie Taylor Johnson and Benjamin Johnson. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, having been a clerk with the Moultrie Post Office for more than 30 years. Mr. Johnson was a graduate of Moultrie High School and was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Luther Johnson and Kelly Johnson, and a sister, Foy Lee Scott.

urvivors include his wife, Mildred Spradley Johnson of Moultrie; a son, Michael B. Johnson and wife Sue Parker Johnson of Albany; daughters, June Johnson Somers and husband John of Atlanta and Susan Johnson Gillespie and husband Charles of Fairburn; sisters, Yuba Crawford of Moultrie and Margaret Pedigo of Kingfisher, Okla.; two grandchildren, Andrea Johnson Swilley and husband Britt of Decatur and Kelley McFarland of Atlanta; great-grandchildren, John Swilley and Thomas Hayes Swilley; longtime caregiver, Wanda Jones; and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. tonight at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Alma Louise Stallings Strawder

NORTH OXFORD, Mass. — Alma Louise Stallings Strawder, 88, of North Oxford, Mass., died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Gifford Hospital in Randolph, Vt.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, at Westview Cemetery with Dr. James C. Wideman officiating.

Born Nov. 24, 1912, in Colquitt County, Mrs. Strawder was the daughter of the late Ruby and Luther Stallings. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Bennett Strawder Sr.

Survivors include a son, Grady B. Strawder Jr. and wife Carma of Lake Helen, Fla.; a daughter, Sandra L. Wideman and husband Dr. James C. of North Oxford, Mass.; a sister, Nell Brown of Davidson, N.C.; three grandchildren, Mindy Morriss and husband Mike, Stacy Wideman and Jeremy Wideman and wife Kathy; and two great-grandchildren, Christopher Morriss and Caleb Morriss.

Visitation will be from 10-10:45 a.m. Saturday at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Lucile Young Cooper West

MOULTRIE — Lucile Young Cooper West, 70, of Moultrie, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at her residence.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, at Liberty Faith Holiness Church with the Revs. Junior Morgan and Dain Croft officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Moore, Ricky Hufstetler, Jimmy Moxley, Dailon Croft, Dion Croft and Roger Waddle.

Born April 22, 1931, in Coolidge, Mrs. West was the daughter of the late Lemual S. and Erma Kennedy Young. She retired from Riverside Manufacturing Company after 43 years as a seamstress and was a member of Liberty Faith Holiness Church.

She was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Eugene Cooper, and two brothers, Benjamin James and Lawson Talmadge Young.

Survivors include a son, Billy Wayne Cooper of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Shirley Anne Moore of Moultrie; brothers, Ronnie S. Young of Lake Wales, Fla., and Lavon S. Young of Lakeland, Fla.; sisters, Barbara Creech and husband Paul of Moultrie, Doris Croft and husband Sam of Berlin; six grandchildren, Stephanie Nicole and Billie Jean Cooper, Alisa Marie Cooper, David Wesley, Christina Anne and Shannon Patricia Moore; and four great-grandchildren, Nicky Nicole and Vicky Lynn Brumley, Jessica Elaine Moore and James Brandon Doroteo.

Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
