The Rev. William Garry Tyson
DOERUN — The Rev. William Garry Tyson, also known as “Doc” or “Papa” Tyson, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at his residence in Doerun after a brief illness. He was 86.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Liberty Hill Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Scott Tomlinson and the Rev. A.R. Wilbourn will officiate.
Born May 2, 1917, to Dr. Gary Green Tyson and Mary Jane Willis Tyson, the Rev. Tyson was a lifelong resident of Worth County. A retired farmer and civil service employee, he became an ordained minister of the Baptist faith in 1956 and pastored many churches in the area, including Liberty Hill Baptist, Bridgeboro Baptist, Evergreen Baptist, Isabella Baptist, Pine Forest Baptist, Mount Horeb Baptist and a church ministry on Sunday mornings at Kitty’s Flea Market.
Survivors include his children, Christine Tyson Patterson of Doerun, Gary Green (Sandra) Tyson of Fayetteville and James Lumpkin (Jackie) Tyson of Doerun; one sister, Ethel Tyson Ethridge of Moultrie; grandchildren, Craig Patterson, Jennifer Patterson Applebaum, Todd Tyson, Tammy Tyson Brooks, Troy Tyson, Brad Tyson and Jody Tyson; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Wingate Tyson; two grandsons, James Michael Tyson and Christopher Kevin Tyson; a brother, E.J. Tyson; and a sister, Rosa Lee Tyson Castleberry.
The family will receive friends beginning at 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Alton O. Johnson
PLANT CITY, Fla. — Alton O. Johnson, 84, a 20-year resident of Berlin, died Aug. 27, 2003, in Plant City.
Mr. Johnson was born May 30, 1919, in Leedy, Miss. He served five years in the Army, worked in the oil field, owned and operated a restaurant and worked for Ferman Chevrolet and Roger Whitley Chevrolet in Tampa, Fla., and Foote Auto Co. in Florence, Ala.
He retired in 1981 to Berlin and became a Mason in Lodge 465. He was a member of Woodmen Lodge 104 in Moultrie and was fraternal coordinator of South Georgia Woodmen of the World. He operated Camp Glenn-Blythe Island at Brunswick.
Mr. Johnson was an honorary state trooper in the Georgia State Patrol.
He moved to Plant City in July 2002 to devote his time to his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Verdie Johnson; and brothers, Luther C. and Herman.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pauline Wooten Curles Johnson; daughter Patricia Rogers and husband Jim; grandchildren, Michael Rogers, Rhonda Trimble and husband Mark, and Rebecca Guidice and husband Carl; seven great-grandchildren; brother, J. Wilbern Johnson; sisters, Beatrice Williams, Mildred Orrell, and Helen Story and husband Cal Marsee; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
He will be buried at Florida National Cemetery.
Memorial gifts can be made in his name to Hospice or a favorite charity.
Julian Wayne Johnson
MOULTRIE — Julian Wayne Johnson, 54, of 1741 Gatewood Circle, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at his residence.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. today, Sept. 14, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with burial at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The Rev. J.E. Moak will officiate.
Mr. Johnson was born May 3, 1949, in Colquitt County to the late Millie Crosby Johnson and the late Murray S. Johnson Sr. He was retired from Alltel Corporation and was a member of First Baptist Church of Moultrie.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Barfield Johnson of Moultrie; one son, Clif Johnson of Valdosta; brothers, Murray S. Johnson Jr. and wife Lena of Ranger, and James Mark Johnson and wife Almeta, Obie Gene Johnson and wife Mary, and George Daniel Johnson and wife Jo, all of Moultrie; sisters, Maggie Johnson Jones and husband Bo of Moultrie, Dora Johnson Bragg and husband Merlin of Albany and Bernice Lopez of Bushnell, Fla.
Visitation will be 3-4 p.m. today at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Daniel C. Martin
ATTALLA, Ala. — Daniel C. Martin, 47, of Attalla, Ala., died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, in Crisp County, Ga.
Funeral services will be at Lankford Funeral Homes and Crematory in DeLand, Fla.
Cobb Funeral Chapel is in charge of local arrangements.
Pauline E. Wilkerson
INVERNESS, Fla. — Pauline E. Wilkerson, 92, died at Citrus Health and Rehabilitation in Inverness, Fla., Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Cobb Funeral Chapel.
Mac Stuart Gardner
AMERICUS — Mac Stuart Gardner, 99, of 302 Pineview Drive, Americus, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug James and the Rev. Hugh DeLoach officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today, Sept. 14, at Aldridge Funeral Services. The following are asked to serve as pallbearers: Murray Gardner, Jerry Gardner, James Dozier, Dr. Dick Hydrick, Carl Veach, Shaw Fletcher, Jeff Schaeffner and Jody Dupree.
Mr. Gardner was born July 18, 1904, in Worth County, the son of the late Murray Gardner and the late Cora Lee Rouse Gardner. He was a retired row crop and livestock farmer. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Frazier Gardner of Americus; one daughter, Mary Lee Williams of Americus; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Allan and Anne Gardner of Albany and Thomas E. and Faye Gardner of Moultrie; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Gardner of Plains; five grandchildren, Denise Carpenter, Stuart Gardner, Kellie Strange, Jennifer Gardner and Michelle Ford; six great-grandchildren, Joshua Gardner, Macayla Gardner, Luke Gardner, Riley Gardner, Ashley Carpenter and Andrew Carpenter. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
