Amelia Shingles

MOULTRIE — Amelia Shingles, 82, of 814 12th St. N.W., died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at her residence. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Strong Funeral Home.



Carl Thomas Harrell

MOULTRIE — Carl Thomas Harrell, 79, of 821 S. Main St., Moultrie, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center. He had been in failing health for three years, but his most recent illness struck three weeks ago.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at Harrell-Faircloth Funeral Home with the Revs. J.E. Moak, Hugh Ward, Roy Hicks, Jerry Mahan and John Eubanks officiating. A private family entombment will be held at Westview Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Strange, Rentz Murphy, Gene Lashley, Danny Harrell, Charles Sumner, Buddy Horne, Everett Rowan and Eddie Murray. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Vereen, Edgar Byrd, Jimmy Voyles, Buddy Sutton, Romie Wilson, Trent Kramer, Jimmy Scearce, Billy Scearce, George Bobo, John Bobo, David Bobo, Henry Crumley, Billy Crumley, Ben Crumley, Jerry Harrell, David Harrell, Lendon Gibbs, Mike Gibbs, Carrol Parker and all Colquitt County ministers.

Mr. Harrell was born March 26, 1922, in Colquitt County to William Lucious and Mary Vann Butler Harrell. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Germany and France. He graduated from Norman College and Gupton Jones School of Mortuary Science.

He was a founding director and chairman of the board of American Banking Company from 1984 to 1990. He was American Banking Company’s first executive committee chairman in 1976. He received a community service award in 1988 from Moultrie-Colquitt County Chamber of Commerce. He was selected to Who’s Who in Georgia in 1973 and received the Woodmen of the World Outstanding Citizen Award in 1988. He was a member of the YMCA Board of Directors in 1972, 1973 and 1974, during the building of the current YMCA. He was co-chairman of the First Baptist Church Renovation Committee and a member of the Colquitt County Board of Equalizers.

He owned Harrell-Faircloth Funeral Home and Pinecrest Memory Gardens. He was past owner of the Colquitt Hotel and Colquitt Ice Company, as well as residential and business rental properties. He was involved in agriculture with cotton, peanuts, tobacco, pecans and cattle in Colquitt and Tift counties. He was a member of the Rotary Club and the Shriner Hasan Temple.

Survivors include his wife, Jemique Crumley Harrell of Moultrie; two daughters, Londa H. Faircloth and husband Robby of Norman Park and Nancy H. Slocumb and husband Johnny of Moultrie; five grandchildren, Emily Carlton Faircloth, Katherine Ellison Faircloth, Marshall Robert Faircloth, Jemique Lauryn McCalley and Cara Cathlin McCalley; and two sisters, Ruth Bobo of Commerce and Lois Cloonan of Chatsworth.

Visitation will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, Oct. 28, at the funeral home.

Harrell-Faircloth Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
