Grace May Hiers

MOULTRIE — Grace May Hiers, 91, of Sunrise Nursing Home, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at Sunrise Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. J.E. Moak officiating. Burial will be at Sardis Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Edward Walden, Blaine Walden, Jody Redding, Billy Fallin, Brent Chitty, Owen Wright and Franklin Smith.

Mrs. Hiers was born July 8, 1910, in Colquitt County to Sam and Flora May. She was retired from Medical Center Pharmacy and was a member of First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Grady Mikel Hiers; and a sister, Kathleen Alexander.

Survivors include a sister, Lois May Walden of Berlin; two nephews, Eddie Walden and wife Glenda, and Sollie Alexander; two nieces, Elaine Walden Gibson and husband Henry, and Floressa Carroll and husband Bill; three great-nephews, Blaine Walden, Edward Walden and wife Susie, and Mark Alexander; two great-nieces, Tammy Alexander and Diedra Walden Redding and husband Jody; and five great-great-nieces and -nephews, Brice and Blake Redding, and Alexander, Hannah and Jacob Walden.

Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Harrell Faircloth Funeral Home.

Elmer ‘Bill’ J. Hortman

MOULTRIE — Elmer “Bill” J. Hortman, 86, of 154 Saturday Road, Moultrie, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be a t 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church with burial at the Mt. Sinai Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Hortman was born March 20, 1915 in Crawford County to the late Elder Oliver J. and the late Exie Hortman. He was a retired farmer and a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church of Doerun.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Kate Bass Hortman of Norman Park; a son, Billy M. Hortman of Moultrie; a daughter, Brenda H. Norman of Norman Park; three brothers, J.C. Hortman and W.G. Hortman of Pavo and Myles Hortman of Moultrie; four sisters, Voncile Carter of Moultrie, Maevan Pittman of Tallahassee, Fla., Lorene Arrington of Kissimmee, Fla., and Exie Perkins of Blakeley; four grandchildren, Scott Hortman, Regina Cash and James and Mike Weathers; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Harrell Faircloth Funeral Home.

Anne Merle Austin Holland

MEIGS — Anne Merle Austin Holland, 78, of 6762 Ga. Highway 111 South, Meigs, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at Harmony Baptist Church with burial at Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. The Revs. Paul Shaw and Jesse Allegood will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Bennett, Kyle Adams, Jeremy Pallas, Franklin Russ, Larrie Sellers and Luther White. Honorary pallbearers will be the Ladies Adult Sunday School Class of Harmony Baptist Church.

Mrs. Holland was born June 1, 1923, in Colquitt County to the late Effie Mae Crowell Austin and the late Lemuel Austin. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, John Francis Garcia and J.B. Holland.

Survivors include two daughters, Wanda J. Bennett and husband Mike of Whigham and Frances Clark and husband David of Pelham; four stepchildren, Curtis Holland of Cummings, Shirley Mead of Richmond, Va., Jerry Holland of Roswell and Sue Ford of Albany; two sisters, Avis Bridges of Moultrie and Mabel Moseley of Gray; four grandchildren, April Pallas, Jennifer Adams, Brian Bennett and Kara Clark; one great-grandchild, Avery Adams; 10 stepgrandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm. Sunday, Oct. 14, at Cobb Funeral Chapel. The family may be contacted at 6762 Ga. Highway 111 South, Meigs.

Geneva Hunt Crawford

MOULTRIE — Geneva Hunt Crawford, 76, died Saturday at her home in Moultrie.

A lifelong resident of Colquitt County, she is survived by





two children, Johnny Crawford of Moultrie and Gail Davis of Thomasville; and one grandchild.
