Guilty plea in boss beating

MOULTRIE — A Pavo man pled guilty Monday in Colquitt County State Court to charges of assaulting his 66-year-old boss.

Judge Richard Kent sentenced Marty Piland, 36, to serve 12 months probation, pay a $1,500 fine and avoid contact with the victim, Eugene Gibbs of Adel, court documents said. Piland was charged June 6 with battery on a person over the age of 65, police reports said.

Gibbs reported that Piland became enraged and assaulted him while they were working in Moultrie, reports said.

Gibbs told officers that Piland hit him several times in the face, causing extreme discoloration and swelling to his left eye. He was treated at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

The following people also pled guilty during June State Court:

Randy Watts, 35, Tifton — DUI and speeding — 16 months probation, $800 fine, 40 hours community service and DUI school.

Keisha Turner, 23, Thomasville — driving without a license — 10 days in jail. She was granted time served.

Reginald Ward, 29, 613 Third St. N.W. — driving on a suspended license and failure to yield — 18 months probation, $700 fine and two days in jail.

Michael Smith, 27, 218 First Ave. N.E. — theft by taking and theft of services — 12 months in jail.

Stevie Jerome Sutton, 19, 2014 Sardis Church Road — harassing phone calls — 60 days in jail.

Maurice Antwon Smith, 19, 513 Fifth Ave. N.W. — possession of less than one ounce of marijuana — 12 months probation and $450 fine.

Jorge Olvera Ortiz, 22, Raleigh, N.C. — DUI and failure to maintain lane — 12 months probation, $735 fine, DUI school and 40 hours community service.

Mickey McCoy, 39, 1228 Hwy. 33 S. — obstruction to an officer, driving on a suspended license, no tag, insufficient head lights, no insurance and open container — 36 months probation, $1,500 fine and 10 days in jail.

Jeremy Deshawn Murray, 19, 110 Ninth St. S.W. — obstruction to an officer, carrying a concealed weapon and carrying a pistol without a license — 36 months probation, $1,500 fine and 20 days in jail.

Randy C Murphy, 48, 285 Oak Grove Church Road — DUI (third offense), driving on a suspended license, no proof of insurance, weaving, improper left turn, giving false information to police, running a red light and insufficient head lights — 60 months probation less 60 days in jail, $2,400 fine, DUI school and 60 days community service.

Jack McArthur Montgomery, 54, 208 West Bypass — DUI — 12 months probation, $650 fine, DUI school and 40 hours community service.

Cindy A. Montgomery, 32, 3109 East Bypass D-1 — eight counts of bad checks — 36 months probation, $600 fine, $220.41 in restitution and $60 for warrant fees.

Denise Mackynen, 28, 1604 Sunrise Ave. — child abandonment –24 months probation and $100 fine. She was also ordered to pay child support.

Dana Jordan, 404 Seventh Ave., Apt. 4 — driving on a suspended license — 12 months probation, $1,000 fine and 10 days in jail.

John Wayne Blackburn, 41, 409 B.F. Giles Road — battery — 12 months probation, $350 fine, and no contact with victim.

Annette Bryant, 38, 483 Patel Road — one count of bad checks — 12 months probation, $100 fine, $84.95 in restitution and $20 in warrant fees.

Sherry Lyn Daniels, 21, Homerville — driving without insurance — 12 months probation and $400 fine.

Sonja Daughtry, 40, Coolidge — four counts of bad checks — 36 months probation, $400 fine, $352.63 in restitution and $40 in warrant fees.

Raul Diaz-Cedillas, 40, Baldree Road — DUI (fifth offense) and driving without a license — 24 months in the Colquitt County Correctional Institute.

Katrina Edison, 27, 816 Seventh St. N.W., Apt. 4 — disorderly conduct — 12 months in jail and $200 fine. The 12-month jail sentence will be suspended if fine is paid by June 21, documents said.

Orlanda Fuentes, Pelham — one count of bad checks — 12 months probation, $298.66 in restitution and $100 fine.

State court jury trials are scheduled to begin June 23.
