MOULTRIE — After three other Colquitt County teams came up short on Monday at the Magnolia Complex, the 9-10 A team came through a victory that keeps it alive in the winners bracket.

The two other 9-10 all-star teams fell to the losers bracket on Monday. Gray dropped a 4-2 decision to Thomasville Blue and Colquitt County’s Blue team lost to Worth County 9-2.

But the Gold team got two runs in the first inning and made them hold up in a 4-1 victory over Americus.

Gold will meet Thomasville Red at 5 p.m. Thursday in a winners bracket game.

The Gold team got a first-inning sacrifice fly from C.J. Copeland and took advantage of an error to go up 2-0.

Caleb Alligood and Seth Whittaker drove in the other two runs in the fourth to provide some insurance.

Gold had 10 hits, including two each by John Michael Harrison and Jonathan Weaver. Copeland, Allegood, William Oliver, Judd Cato, Rob Rojas and Cody Akridge had the others.

Thomasville got four runs in the bottom of the third and made them stand up in its 4-2 victory over Colquitt County Gray.

Thomasville’s Dallas Tinsley led off the third by reaching on a Colquitt County error. Matt Sampson and Garrett West singled to load the bases.

Keith Bentley unloaded them with a triple to right to make it 3-0. Bentley scored on John Barrett’s sacrifice fly.

That was all Thomasville got, but it was enough.

Gray scored its only two runs in the top of the fifth.

Clark Hendrick opened the inning with a single and moved to second on and infield hit by Will Burgess. After Shane Slocumb reached on a fielder’s choice to load the bases, Cody Brinson drove in the first run on an infield grounder. Jessie Jarnigan then doubled to the fence in left center to drive in Brinson.

Gray got the first two batters aboard in the bottom of the sixth, but was unable to move them around. Hendrick, Burgess, Slocumb, Jarnigan, D.J. Vanzant and Blake Moore had the Gray team’s hits.

Gray will play a losers’ bracket game at 8:45 tonight against Worth County.

Moultrie Blue scored two runs in the top of the first in its game with Worth County, but never threatened again.

Worth took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the first and added four more in the bottom of the third.

A two-run fourth finished the scoring for Worth County.

The game started with promise for Blue. Travion Littleton singled to open the game and was forced at second by Tyler Dismuke.

Davis Durham drove in the first run with a double to left. John Sullen then singled to center to put Blue up 2-0.

Worth scored three times on four hits in the bottom of the inning.

In the four-run third, Worth got hits from Sam Youngblood and David Cooper and RBIs from Boddiford, Cooper and Corey Proctor.

Jones and Cooper led Worth County with three hits each. Youngblood and Stewart each had two and Jackson, Boddiford, Lee and Jake Williams had the others.

Blue had just five hits, including singles by Littleton, Sullen, Justin Daughtry and Russ DeMott and a double by Durham.

Blue will play a losers bracket game at 6:15 tonight against Grady County.
