MOULTRIE — The Georgia Black Sox, the 11-and-under baseball team formerly known as the Georgia Giants and made up entirely of Colquitt County players, finished second in the Flint River Ravage II tournament held last weekend in Bainbridge.

The tournament was the first of 2005-2006 season.

The Black Sox won their first game in the tournament, defeating the Panhandle Panthers from Grand Ridge, Fla., 5-4. Matt Gerald was the winning pitcher, allowing eight hits and striking out two.

Tyler Yost also pitched, allowing four hits and striking out one.

The Black Sox blasted the Albany Angels 18-4 in their second game. Dustin McAlpin got the win, allowing no hits and striking out one. Preston Berry, who allowed three runs and two hits, and Daren Kent, who allowed one run and one hit, also pitched.

In their third game, the Black Sox defeated the Angels again, winning this time 14-2.

Gerald got the win, allowing two runs and three hits while striking out two. Aubrey McCarty also pitched, allowing no runs or hits and striking out three.

In the championship game, the Black Sox fell to the Panhandle Panthers 9-8 in eight innings.

Yost pitched the first four innings, allowing five runs and five hits. McCarty took the mound in the fourth inning and allowed two runs. Kent also came on in the fourth and allowed two runs and three hits and took the loss.

The Black Sox batted .394 in the tournament, with Kent leading the team by going 8-for-11 with four doubles and six runs batted in.

Aubrey McCarty was 5-for-9 with a pair of doubles. Bennett was 6-for-12 with a double and four runs driven in.

Yost and Berry each had four hits in the tournament.
