The annual Festival of Lights Christmas Parade will be held in Downtown Moultrie Thursday, December 13 at 6:30p.m.
The theme for this year’s parade will be “Christmas Magic Under the Lights.” The Parade is part of the community’s history and a highlight for Colquitt County residents each year.
The traditional parade under the lights will be on Thursday night this year in order to maximize participation and in response to increased scheduling conflicts with out of town football playoffs, college football and other normal holiday travels on weekends. “We have already seen an increase in participation compared to last year,” commented Amy Johnson Main Street Director. “We are going to have a big parade this year.”
A parade committee was added this year. They have been busy with promoting our parade. A special thank you goes out to them. Parade committee members include Staci DeRosso, Ann Hoffman, Elizabeth Strickland, Barbara Jelks, Daniel Parrish, Bill Harrison, Lou Ann Lardy, Steve Johnson, Bo Williams, Patricia Powell, Becky Reagan, Kristi Griffin, Tina Coleman, Jessica McGirt and Justin Cox.
The parade route will be the same beginning at the Methodist Church and ending around the square at First Baptist Church. Along with the parade, Johnson said downtown businesses will hold regular business hours for anyone looking to do some Christmas shopping or eat before festivities begin.
Johnson said the application process to enter a float in the parade is still open. The parade will be broadcast on CNS channel 6. It will be rebroadcast on WSST in Cordele. For information or to enter a float, call the Main Street office at 890-5455.
