Register wins state again

MOULTRIE — Travis Register won Colquitt County's first state championship in 2012 and on Saturday tacked on a second state title.

Register won a 14-6 decision over Lambert High's Gantt Bauer to win the Class AAAAAA 220-pound state championship at the Macon Centreplex.

Register won all four of his matches at the state tournament to claim the title.

The Colquitt County senior's victories in Macon were over Christian Shellenbarger of Newnan; Hunter McClesky of Archer; Jalen Brooks of North Gwinnett; and Bauer.

Register finishes the season with a 33-3 record.

"He knew what he had to do and he did it," Packers coach Travis Torbert said of Register. "He had (Bauer) on his back about a minute-and-a-half in the third period. He knew he was going to win."

Torbert said as a defending champion, Register was targeted this season. But he was able to avenge two of his three losses this season.

"I'm proud of him," Torbert said. "He has set the bar high."

And Torbert was not the only Packer to return to Moultrie with a medal.

Anderson Glenn finished third in the 138-pound weight class.

Glenn finished with a 60-6 record this year and will leave as the school's all-time leader in wrestling victories.
