The grand jury also indicted a man, also with a violent history, accused of an assault on an 87-year-old woman and issued a rape indictment in another sexual assault case as well.

Floyd Tyrone Coates Jr., 46, is accused in a Jan. 21 rape of a woman at a residence on Shade Murphy Road.

A 22-year-old woman reported to the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office that she was at the residence with Coates and another man, who went to the store, leaving her alone with Coates. She told authorities Coates sexually assaulted her during that time.

Prior to his release on March 24, 2008, Coates served about 22 and a half years in prison. He was convicted in the June 7, 1985, murder of 16-year-old Anterrio Jones.

Jones was stabbed repeatedly in the chest and back, just hours after Coates was released on bond after an arrest on a burglary charge. After leaving jail, Coates went to a northwest Moultrie pool where he confronted Jones and another person in an effort to determine who had informed police about the burglary.

In 1987 Coates was convicted on a charge of prisoner possessing a weapon or drugs.

Since his arrest in January of last year, Coates’ parole has been revoked and he has been back in the state prison system since April 12.

In another case, Willie Nard Grant, 39, of Pelham was indicted on charges of burglary, aggravated assault and theft by receiving stolen property.

He was arrested on July 20 last year two hours after 87-year-old Eva Clayton was attacked in her Georgia Highway 111 home.

Grant, whom law enforcement said was driving a car reported stolen in his home town at the time of his arrest, was wanted at that time in connection with a sexual assault in that city.

He also has been indicted in for sexual assault in Mitchell County on charges of aggravated assault and false imprisonment.

Clayton reported that a man came to her residence in the 3200 block of Highway 111, asked for directions and then asked for some gasoline. The man then forced his way inside, assaulted Clayton and took some money.

Officers located Grant and a blue Ford Taurus later in the day in the 800 block of Third Street Northwest in Moultrie.

Officials said that Clayton was not seriously injured.

Grant previously was sentenced in 2000 in Mitchell County to 120- and 60-month sentences on aggravated assault and burglary convictions. The case in which Grant entered a guilty plea to aggravated assault was on a rape charge.

He was released from prison in 2006.

In a second sexual assault case, Rodney Brushaun Frazier is accused of raping a Moultrie woman and using a pistol in sexually assaulting her two additional times.

Frazier, 31, of Dixie, was indicted on charges of aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated sexual battery and rape.

Moultrie police also believe that Frazier discharged a handgun during the April 2012 incident on 10th Avenue Southeast and found a discharged bullet in the woman’s residence.
