Lady Packers fall to Lowndes in triple overtime

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County girl basketball team battled Lowndes through three overtimes on Tuesday on the road, only to come up short 67-65.

The Lady Packers trailed after three quarters, but rallied to tie the game at 50-50 and send into overtime, where it was 54-54 after the first 4-minutes extra period and 58-58 after the second. Lady Packers coach Rondesha Williams said she was pleased with the way her team battled, especially after leading scorer Makeba Ponder fouled out in the first overtime.

“The kids played hard,” said Williams, whose team falls to 10-4 overall and 2-3 in the Region 1-AAAAAA standings. “We played very well without Makeba. This should give the team some confidence in themselves.”

Ponder scored a season-high 34 points. Ashley Henry and Dexshalyn Polite each had eight; Ja’nice Sailor had six; Shakhila Harry had five; and Natalie Griffin had four.

The Lady Packers hurt themselves at the free throw line, where they converted just 7-of-19.

Lowndes is now 1-2 in region play.

Colquitt’s girls will face another difficult task on Friday when they play host to Tift County. The Lady Devils are 4-0 in the region.
