MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County softball team banged out 16 hits, but needed to score two runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat Tift County 4-2 on Thursday in Tifton.
The Lady Packers stranded 13 runners, but got big RBI base hits from Kaytlyne Jarvis and Taylor Owens in the seventh inning to defeat the Lady Devils.
Colquitt’s girls, who fell 1-0 to Lowndes on Tuesday, evened their Region 1-AAAAA record at 1-1 and will take a 6-2 overall record into the SITS Tournament that starts today in Brunswick.
Tift County falls to 2-10 overall and 1-1 in the region.
The Lady Packers left the bases loaded three times, including the first and second innings.
“But we hung in there,” Lady Packers Coach Carman Phillips said. “We never got down.”
The game was tied 2-2 when Jarvis and Owens delivered their big hits in the top of the seventh.
Ainsley Davis held the Lady Devils scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to get the win.
Owens led the Lady Packers offense, going 4-for-5. Jarvis was 3-for-4.
Cheyenne Sumner, Hannah Hancock and Shameka Reynolds each had two hits.
Davis, Meagan May and Jordan Taylor each had one hit.
Hancock started at pitcher and went the first four innings, giving up both Tift County runs and striking out four.

The Lady Packers will open pool play in the tournament in Brunswick at 7 tonight with a game against Northside-Warner Robins.
At 8:30 tonight, Colquitt will meet Brantley County.
Play will resume at 10:30 a.m. with a game against Wayne County. Colquitt will then begin tournament play.
The varsity Lady Packers will resume region play next Thursday when they play host to Valdosta.
There was no junior varsity game on Thursday because Tift County has no team. Colquitt’s JV team will play a 4:30 p.m. doubleheader at Cook on Tuesday.
