MOULTRIE —
It wasn’t exactly a polished effort, but the Colquitt County girls basketball team won its home-opener on Saturday, defeating Lee County 48-32 on the William Bryant Court at the Gladys Espy Gymnasium.
After splitting their season-openers in the Fastbreak Shoot-Out in Tallahassee last weekend, the the Lady Packers raised their record to 2-1.
The Lady Trojans hit three 3-pointers in the first 3:19 of the game to take an early 9-2 lead.
But a basket by Ja’nice Sailor tied the game at 9-9 and the first two of Makeba Ponder’s game-high 25 points gave the Lady Packers an 11-9 lead with 3:08 left in the first quarter.
Colquitt went on to lead 17-11 at the end of the first quarter and 32-15 at the half.
Ponder had five 2-pointers and four 3-pointers to put up her third straight double-digit effort to open the season.
She scored 30 and 14 points in the Tallahassee.
Ponder also hit 3-of-6 free throws on Saturday.
Ponder helped Colquitt County extend its halftime lead to 15 points by scoring 10 points in the second quarter.
She had two of her 3-pointers in the quarter.
Dexshalyn Polite added 11 points; Shakhila Harry had five; Sailor added four; and Dezaray Fowler had three.
The Lady Packers hit just 8-of-19 free throws.
Alexis Simmons led Lee County with 11 points.
The Colquitt County boys defeated the Trojans 66-41 in Saturday’s second game.
The game was the season-opener for the Packers.
Lee County’s first-year coach is Kirven Davis, who coached the Packers for six seasons.
The Trojans led 9-7 after the first quarter, but the Packers rallied to take a 21-17 halftime lead. Xavier Terry had two 3-pointers in Colquitt County’s 14-point second quarter.
Colquitt County junior varsity girls team won its season-opener in the day’s first game, defeating Lee County 40-25.
Kandi Seay led the Lady Packers with nine points.
Abbi Beth Paulk added eight; Olivia Griffin had six; Aikerrion Ryce had five; Dexshalyn Polite had three; Joneria Grant, Britni Marshall, Takerria Waters and T’Keyah Owens each had two; and Felicia Bowman had a free throw.

11 Colquitt County players named All-Region in soccer
Six members of the Colquitt County boys soccer team and five from the girls team have been included on the All-Region 1-AAAAAA team selected by the league’s coaches.

R.B. Wright Team 2 defeated Odom in championship game to win the Moultrie YMCA’s Elementary School Sports League flag football title.
