Georgia Southern to meet Central Arkansas in playoffs

MOULTRIE — The Georgia Southern football team will face Central Arkansas on Dec. 1 at Paulson Stadium in the second round of the FCS playoffs.

The Eagles will take an 8-3 record into the game. Central Arkansas is 9-2.

Georgia Southern is 32-3 all time in the playoffs at home.

Former Packer Quaun Daniels is playing linebacker for the Eagles.

Of this and that:

• Former Lady Packer Kwante’sha Love played seven minutes in Georgia Southwestern’s season-opener and 12 minutes in the second game against Southern Indiana.

The Lady Hurricanes, now 0-3, will play next on Saturday in the PBC-SIAC Challenge at Fort Valley.

Maranda Trim and Kenisha Seay, Love’s former Lady Packer teammates, are playing at Middle Georgia Tech.

• Albany State’s Orion Ponder finished the season with 20 pass receptions for 238 yards and 10 kickoff returns for 151 yards.

The Rams finished with a 6-4 record.

• Arkansas State defeated Troy State 41-34 on Saturday to raise its record to 8-3 overall and 6-1 in the Sunbelt Conference.

The Red Wolves will face Middle Tennessee State next.

Bryce Giddens has started 10 straight games at center for Arkansas State.

• Tommy Hudson had four catches for 80 yards, including one for 55 yards, as Chattanooga defeated Elon 24-17 on Saturday.

The Mocs finished 6-5 overall and 5-3 in the Southern Conference.

• Columbus State’s Heath Lamb finished in 141st place turning in a time of 31:56 in the NCAA cross country championships held Saturday in Joplin, Mo.

Lamb knocked 20 seconds off the time he ran in the Regional and moved up 43 spots in the second half of the race.

Columbus State finished 24th in the championships, held at Missouri Southern State’s 10-kilometer course.

• Cam Erving started again at left tackle in Florida State’s 41-14 victory at Maryland on Saturday.

The Seminoles are now 10-1 overall and 7-1 in the ACC and will play in the ACC championship game.

Florida State will play host to Florida at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium.

• Kelsey Goodman was second on the 1-meter springboard with a 290.70 and was second on 3-meter with a 289.13 when the Florida State women’s swimming and diving team defeated Florida last Thursday.

• Robert Craft’s North Florida Christian team defeated Eagle’s View 41-19 on Friday to raise is record to 7-3.

The Eagles will play at University Christian on Friday in the playoffs.
