Odom wins YMCA soccer championship

MOULTRIE —  Odom 1 completed the season undefeated to win the Moultrie YMCA Elementary School Soccer Championship.

Odom Elementary had two teams participate in the elementary soccer league.

“Odom teams displayed fantastic school spirit,” said Brittany Bennett, YMCA Sports Director.

“Each of Odom’s teams supported the other by being spectators of each other’s game. It was really fun to see the support they gave to each other.”

The team included Marlen Contreras, Aldo Miranda, Jacob Walden, Autumn Pate, Joseph Contreras, Xziya Waldon, Mason Sellers, Daliza Gachuz, Luis Gonzalez, Alex Juan, Pedro Luna and Angel Luna.

Odom and R.B. Wright have taken the early lead in the All County Cup standings.

Odom and R.B. Wright each had 16 points after the soccer season.

They are followed by Funston, eight points; Cox, five points; Sunset, four points; Okapilco, three poitns; Norman Park, two points; Hamilton, one point; Stringfellow, a half-point; and Doerun, no points.

The standings are calculated using a point system based on game results throughout the season.

Some schools have more than one team participating.

Points from the basketball and flag football leagues will be added and the school with the most points will win the All County Cup.

The final standings in Division One had Odom I first with an 8-0 record followed by R.B. Wright 1, 5-3; Cox, 3-4; Okapilco, 2-4; and Norman Park, 1-5.

Finishing first in Divison Two was R.B. Wright 2 with a 6-2 record, followed by Funston, 5-3; Odom 2, 3-4; Sunset, 2-4; and Hamilton 0-6.
