MOULTRIE —
MOULTRIE — Colquitt County’s Anna Leigh Keith and her Vanderbilt women’s golf teammates will compete in the NCAA Championships next week in Wilmington, N.C.
The Commodores finished fifth in the East Regional last Saturday at the Ironwood course in Greenville, N.C. to qualify for the Championships, which will be held May 18-21 at Wilmington’s Country Club of Landfall.
Vanderbilt finished fifth in the East Regional with a 7-over par 871.
The top eight teams from the Regional advanced to the National Championships.
Keith, a freshman, shot a final round 73 and turned in a 222 to finish tied for 40th.
The former Lady Packer had a first-round 75 and shot a 74 the second day.
Marina Alex, Vanderbilt’s SEC Player of the Year, led the team with a 72-73-71 for a 216 that placed her in a tie for ninth place. Junior Megan Grehan shot a 217; senior Brooke Goodwin had a 218; and freshman Lauren Staratton had a 225.
“Everybody is pitching in,” said coach Greg Allen. “I’ve told them when you have three players in the top 15 or 20, we’ve got a chance to win.
The trip to the NCAA Championships will be the first for the Commodores since 2007.
