MOULTRIE — MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County junior varsity football team scored twice in the first quarter and built a 21-0 lead before defeating Tift County 21-12 on Thursday at Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium.

The victory raises the JV’s record to 3-1. Colquitt lost last week to Valdosta 14-13 after defeating Tift County and Coffee to open the season.

Colquitt scored first on a 31-yard touchdown run by Matt Sailor with 5:43 left in the first quarter and Oscar Luna added the extra point.

After Nate Madison blocked a Tift County punt to give Colquitt County possession at the Tift County 13, Sailor scored again, this time on a 12-yard run and Luna’s conversion put the Packers up 14-0 with 1:52 left in the quarter.

The Packers took the second-half kickoff and drove 56 yards in nine play, scoring on a 22-yard pass from Shelby Wilkes to Rodney Troupe. Luna again converted.

The Blue Devils scored twice in the fourth quarter, the second time on a blocked punt.

Wilkes and Alex Littleton combined to complete 10-of-20 passes for 81 yards. John Boatwright was the leading rusher with 63 yards on 14 carries. Sailor added 47 yards on six attempts. Johnny Ward picked off a Tift County pass on the first play of the game.

The JV team’s next game will be against Lowndes on Sept. 23 at home.
