Colquitt to play host to Bainbridge tonight
MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County boys and girls basketball teams will play host to Bainbridge tonight at the Gladys Espy Memorial Gymnasium.
The Lady Packers are 3-0, but will go up against a Bainbridge team that went to the Final Four in Class AAAA last year and is 8-0 this season.
The Lady Cats are led by senior forward Alexis Burks, who has signed to play a the University of Illinois next season.
Burks, forward Bria Harris and guard April Thomas all average in double figures.
The Lady Packers have defeated Monroe twice and Worth County.
The Colquitt County boys have struggled in the early going without several players who were with the Packers football team.
All-Region performer Nate Hill is averaging in double figures in the Packers first three games.
The Bainbridge boys reached the Final Four last year, but lost all five starters to graduation.
The Bearcats are 4-1 and count on the scoring of Shawn Samuels and Rohan Gaines.
Colquitt County will be home again Saturday to face Worth County.

Rustlers win World Series tournament in Valdosta
MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County Rustlers won the Elite Tournament Baseball Silver Division World Series, which was held July 23-24 in Valdosta.

Pine Grove Baptist Church won the Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Department’s Ladies Church League championship with a record of 8-1. Region football kickoff program set for Saturday
MOULTRIE — Former Colquitt County High head football coach Jim Hughes will be the keynote speaker at Saturday’s annual Kickoff to Men’s Health Event in Tifton that will feature Region 1-AAAAA coaches speaking about their teams’ prospects for the 2010 season.
