MOULTRIE — Colquitt County’s Andrew Harvin brought back two championship trophies from the V-Town Throwdown Junior Championships held last weekend at the McKey Park Tennis Center in Valdosta.
Harvin bested Colquitt County High teammated Bo Blalock in the finals of the Boys 16 Blue singles division and then teamed with Valdosta’s Brent Ellis to win the Boys 16 doubles title.
Harvin and Blalock were two of 15 Colquitt County players who competed in the event, held Saturday and Sunday.
In the Boys 16 Blue singles division, Harvin, the No. 1 seed, won his first match, defeating Steve Nix, 6-0, 6-0.
Harvin repeated that effort in his next match, dispatching Cody Norris 6-0, 6-0, to reach the finals.
Blalock was the No. 2 seed. He advanced to the finals by defeating Hema Hasona 6-0, 6-1, and Dixon Fletcher 6-0, 6-2.
In the finals, Harvin won by a score of 6-0, 6-1.
Harvin and Ellis won their first two doubles matches by scores of 8-1 and 8-0 to reach the finals, where they defeated Ryan Baker of Macon and Robert Watson of Griffin 8-4.
The Boys 16 Blue Division singles event drew two other Colquitt County players, including David Forehand, who won the consolation finals.
Forehand opened by defeating teammate Ricky Patel 6-3, 6-0. In his second match, Forehand lost to Fletcher 4-6, 5-7 to fall to the consolation round.
There Forehand won over Hasona 6-4, 6-4, and claimed the consolation finals by defeating Patel 6-3, 6-3.
Between his losses to Forehand, Patel defeated Alan Valdeviezo 7-5, 6-4.
Paul Leonard played in the Boys 16 Red singles division and dropped his first match to Will Vonk 2-6, 3-6.
In the consolation round, Leonard fell to Chaker Fares 6-3, 1-6, 0-1(2).
Jacob Tompkins was the only Colquitt County player in the boys 18 singles.
He dropped his first match to Savan Patel 4-6, 4-6 and fell to Braden Anglin in the consolation round 5-7, 1-6.
Tompkins also teamed with Anglin to play doubles and the two dropped their first match but won their second in the round robin competition.
They fell to Tommy Cangelosi and Stephen Moore in their first match 7-9.
In their next match, Tompkins and Anglin won over Patrick Steck and Will Vonk 8-5.
Nick Nichols won his first match in the boys 14 singles division, defeating William Thornton 6-1, 6-0.
He then fell to eventual champion Gray Wells, 1-6, 0-6.
In the consolation round, Nichols won over Collin Summerlin 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (11), before losing to Zachary Edwards, 2-6, 6-7(1).
William Price also played in the boys 14 singles, losing to Andrew Greneker 1-6, 2-6, and to Reid Wright 1-6, 3-6.
Rachel Funderburk won the 16 girls consolation round.
She opened by defeating teammate Alden Rykard 6-1, 6-0, but then dropped to the consolation round after a 1-6, 1-6 loss to top-seeded Hilary Flournoy.
In the consolation, she won over teammate Catie Statom 6-2, 6-3 and advanced to the consolation finals, where she defeated Ansleigh Young, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (5).
After losing to Funderburk, Rykard lost to Young in the consolation round 1-6, 0-6.
Before losing to Funderburk, Statom had been defeated by Shelby Prostko 3-6, 0-6.
Heather Hardy represented Colquitt County in the girls 14 singles red division and lost her first match to Abbie Smith 3-6, 1-6.
She dropped her first consolation match to Haley Tubbs 4-6, 2-6.
Desirae Cash also competed in the girls 14 singles red division and lost to Anna Walter 1-6, 0-6, and to Hailee Hathcock 2-6, 2-6.
In the girls 14 singles blue division, Aislin Sheffield won over Maggie Wisenbaker 6-2, 6-4, before losing to Emily Fraysier 0-6, 0-6 and, in the consolation round, to Rachel Cooper 3-6, 4-6.
