MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County middle school wrestling team split a pair of matches with Lowndes and Cook on Wednesday at the Pineland gymnasium in its third competition of the season.
The middle school Packers lost their season-opener last Wednesday by four points to Pine Grove then placed sixth out of 14 teams in the Viking tournament at Lowndes last Saturday.
Hudson May won his weight class in the Lowndes tournament.
On Wednesday, Colquitt fell to Lowndes 54-27.
The Packers got pins from Austin Hunnicutt, Braden Flinchum and Ladon Sanchez and got decisions from Garrett May, Hudson May and Garrett Robinson.
The Packers got a split when they defeated Cook 27-12.
George Zeanah, Charlie Zeanah, Jamoree Pace and Hudson May had pins against the Hornets.
Hart Sumner won by a decision.
In the 46-42 loss to Pine Grove last week, the Packers received pins from Hunnicutt, Flinchum, George Zeanah, Kiarron Hendry, Garrett May, Hudson May and Charlie Zeanah.
In Saturday’s tournament at Lowndes, May got the Packers only weight-class championship, placing first in 128-pound class.
Turning in runner-up finishes were Garrett May, at 121 pounds; Nick Amador at 135 pounds; and Javier Martinez at 170 pounds.
George Zeanah and Cedric Roberts took third-place finishes at 82 pounds.
Hendry also had a third-place finish at 98 pounds.
Other placing third were Charlie Zeanah, at 135; Hunnicutt, at 155; and Flinchum at 225.
Colquitt County will return to the mats on Monday when they travel to Tift County. The middle school Packers will be back at the Pineland gymnasium at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3, when they play host to Tift County and Pine Grove.
Coach Brian Saturday’s team also will take part in the Tomcat Tournament in Valdosta on Dec. 12.
That will be the team’s final competition until after the Christmas break.
The middle school Packers will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 6. when they travel to Hahira to meet Pine Grove and Hahira.

Trailing 4-0 when weather stopped its game against M&M Diesel on Tuesday and down 5-0 after three innings on Thursday, Harrell Auto Electric rallied to score nine runs in the final three innings to win 9-6 and claim the Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Department’s Mite League girls softball championship.

Softball resumes

M&M Diesel was leading Harrell Auto Elecric 4-0 in the third inning on Tuesday at the Jim Buck Goff Recreation Complex when the game was suspended by a bad weather. The game will be completed today. If M&M Diesel defeats Harrell Auto Electric and also wins over Park Regency in a second game tonight, it will win the Mite League championship.

Four more members of the 2011 Colquitt County High football team have signed to continue their careers and number of the 2012 Packers are already receiving college offers.
