MOULTRIE —
Eugene Anderson III shot a state-qualifying score of 291 to lead the Colquitt County High rifle team to a 1,117-974 victory at Turner County on Thursday, its fourth straight victory to open the season.
Anderson is the first Packer to shoot a 290 or better, a score that secures a berth in the state championships for the shooter.
Anderson bested his previous season high, a 282 in the season-opening match at Worth County, by nine points.
He shot a match-high 99 in the prone position and scored a 96 in both the standing and kneeling positions.
His previous high in the difficult standing position this season had been a 90, shot at home against Fitzgerald.
Kiarron Hendry had another solid performance, shooting 95 in the prone and 94 in both the standing and kneeling positions for a 283.
Colquitt County’s other two counting scores were a 274 shot by Cameron Johnson and a 269 turned in by first-year shooter Katelyn Wilcott.
Johnson had a 96 in the prone and a 93 in the kneeling, but managed just an 85 in the standing position.
The 1,117 score was three points shy of the team’s season-high 1,120 shot in the opener.
