MOULTRIE —
Colquitt County Hall of Fame member Lonnie White teamed up with longtime doubles partner Milton “Amp” Myers to win the men’s 50s doubles championship at the Southern Senior men’s and Women’s Indoor Open Tennis Tournament.
The event was held Sunday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center at Auburn University in Auburn, Ala.
“I am very fortunate to have a great tennis partner in Amp,” White said. “Amp and I know each other’s game so well because of the length of time we have played together , the patience we have developed and our will to win. We have this synergy that makes us a dynamic team.”
White said Myers is aggressive and sets up and finishes points well.
“I, on the other hand, consider myself a finesse player who sets points up well and finishes well,” White said. “In my opinion, that is a great team.”
White and Myers defeated Ken H. Koelling of Mississippi and Theodore M. Nusenow of Louisiana in the finals 6-2, 6-3.
