MOULTRIE —
Despite getting a career-high 30 points from Kamoris Woods, the Colquitt County boys squandered a 13-point second-quarter lead and fell to Stone Mountain 52-44 on Thursday in their opening game of the Colquitt Regional Medical Center Shoot-out being held on the William Bryant Court at the Gladys Espy Gymnasium.
The game was sixth of seven games in the first day of the event, which will continue today and Saturday.
Also on Thursday, the Westside-Macon boys defeated Josey 55-48; the Washington County girls won over Rickards 71-45; the Norland High of Miami girls defeated Albany 69-15; the Washington County boys edged Pelham 59-56; and the Monroe girls won over Pelham 56-48.
With Woods scoring 10 points, the Packers took a 14-5 lead after the first quarter and when Woods hit back-to-back baskets to open the second quarter, the Packers went up 18-5.
But the Pirates then began to whittle away at the Packers lead and trailed by just two at the half 24-22.
When Marquez Hinton hit a short jumper with 6:06 left in the third quarter, the Pirates had the lead for the first time at 27-26.
And they never lost it.
Stone Mountain outscored the Packers 18-9 in the third quarter and 30-20 in the second half to get the victory.
The Packers also got five points from Tymetrious Lowery, three from Jay Tolbert and two each from Javonta Woods, Donta Wilson and Xavier Terry 2.
Terry went into the game averaging 19.2 points a game, but never found a shooting rhythm.
The Packers were able to get the ball often to Kamoris Woods down low and he also was able to convert some put-backs. He also had eight rebounds to lead the Packers.
The loss drops the Packers to 2-3 as they prepare to meet Josey High of Augusta at 5:30 p.m. today.
The Colquitt County girls tried to avenge their only loss of the season when they faced Florida A&M University High in Thursday final game.

11 Colquitt County players named All-Region in soccer
Six members of the Colquitt County boys soccer team and five from the girls team have been included on the All-Region 1-AAAAAA team selected by the league’s coaches.

R.B. Wright Team 2 defeated Odom in championship game to win the Moultrie YMCA’s Elementary School Sports League flag football title. State champion flag football team
Colquitt County won the gold medal in the Senior/Master Traditional Flag Football competition at the recent 2013 Special Olympics Georgia State Summer Games last weekend. Colquitt County defeated Gwinnett County 26-0 in the opening round and defeated Gwinnett again in the championship game 24-0.
