MOULTRIE —
The Colquitt County seventh-grade basketball teams will open South Georgia Athletic Conference tournament play today with games at the Willie J. Williams Middle School gymnasium.
The undefeated and top-seeded seventh-grade Lady Packers will play host to Hahira at 4:30 p.m. today in their tournament opener.
Colquitt’s seventh-grade girls blew through their schedule, winning all 12 games, but did not meet Hahira in the regular season.
With a victory today, they will be at home again for second-round game against the winner of the game between No. 4 seed Newbern and No. 5 seed Valdosta.
In the other two girls games today, No. 3 seed Tift County will play host to No. 6 Pine Grove and No. 2 Coffee will be at home to play No. 7 Lowndes.
The winners of those two games will square off in the other semifinal game.
The seventh-grade boys will take a 10-2 record and a five-game winning streak into today’s 5:30 p.m. game against Newbern.
The Packers defeated Newbern by 54-33 and 56-33 scores during the regular season.
The second victory over Newbern came last Thursday at the Willie J. Williams Middle School gym.
The seventh-grade Packers won their first four games this season, then dropped a 45-31 decision to Tift County on Dec. 11.
On Jan. 19, the Packers avenged that loss with a 38-36 victory in Tifton.
The other loss was by a 37-29 score at Coffee. The Packers won the game against the Trojans played in Moultrie on Nov. 29, 43-36.
With a victory today, the seventh-grade Packers would advance to a second-round game against the winner of today’s game between No. 3 Tift County yand No. 6 Valdosta.
In the other first-round games today, top-seeded Coffee will play host ot No. 8 Lowndes and No. 4 Pine Grove will be at home against No. 5 Hahira.
The championship games will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Willie J. Williams Middle School gymnasium.

Quality Employment, Liberty Tax win tournament titles
Quality Employment added the Midget League tournament championship to its regular-season title on Thursday, defeating Davis Insurance 10-0 in five innings at the Magnolia Sports Complex.
And Liberty Tax scored seven runs in its final two at bats to take the Farm League tournament championship with an 8-4 win over Ameris. -

11 Colquitt County players named All-Region in soccer
Six members of the Colquitt County boys soccer team and five from the girls team have been included on the All-Region 1-AAAAAA team selected by the league’s coaches.

YMCA flag football champions
R.B. Wright Team 2 defeated Odom in championship game to win the Moultrie YMCA’s Elementary School Sports League flag football title. urham Insurance scored four runs in the bottom of the final inning to defeat BJ’s Plantation 7-5 on Monday to claim second place in the Junior girls softball league.

State champion flag football team
Colquitt County won the gold medal in the Senior/Master Traditional Flag Football competition at the recent 2013 Special Olympics Georgia State Summer Games last weekend. Colquitt County defeated Gwinnett County 26-0 in the opening round and defeated Gwinnett again in the championship game 24-0.
