MOULTRIE —
MOULTRIE — Turning the ball over three straight times near its own 20-yard line proved the undoing of the Colquitt County seventh-grade Black football team, which dropped its season-opener 28-8 on Wednesday in Tifton.
The Colquitt County seventh-grade Gold team, which was off Wednesday, won its opener 40-20 over Pine Grove at Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium last week.
“The first half, our offense was unbelievably bad,” said Coach Tim Kelshaw. “We made it hard for our defense.
“But it was our first game and you always have some mental mistakes. Maybe we got it out of our system.”
The Packers only touchdown came on a quarterback sneak by Kevin Hall.
Hall also threw a 2-point conversion pass to Chris Bouie.
The eighth-grade Black team will play it next three games at home, starting with a game against Newbern next Wednesday.
Colquitt will play host to Coffee on Sept. 22 and Hahira on Sept. 29 before playing its final two games on the road.
