When the Colquitt County High rifle team’s match with Tift County in Tifton on Tuesday ended in a 1,091-1,091 deadlock, the teams’ coaches went looking for a rule book to find the tie-breaker procedure.
The first tie-breaker in a high school rifle match is most center-10 shots.
Tift County had 33 center shots. Colquitt County won the match with 37 center shots.
The victory raised Colquitt County’s record to 4-0, although the team’s score was its lowest since the opening match of the season.
Each team scored a 362 in the kneeling position.
Tift County scored a 384 in the prone position and a 345 in the standings.
The Packers had a 378 in the prone and a 351 in the standing.
Colquitt County competed without Eugene Anderson, one of its top shooters.
Kaitlin Turner led Colquit County with a 282, including a match-high 98 in the prone position.
She also had a 93 in the standing and 91 in the kneeling positions.
Kiarron Hendry had the tam’s second-highest score, a 275 that included a 95 in the prone, an 88 in the standing and a 92 in the kneeling positions.
Cameron Johnson returned to action for the first time since the opening match and had a 269 that included a 91 in the prone, a 90 in the standings and an 88 in the kneeling.
Kellen Kern had the final counting score, a season-high 265.
His score included a 94 in the prone, an 80 in the standing and a 91 in the kneeling.
Erica Lyn, who had a 245, and Tyler Gershom, who turned in a 231, also shot for Colquitt County on Tuesday.
The Packers return to action at 5 p.m. today when they play host to Fitzgerald.

Trailing 4-0 when weather stopped its game against M&M Diesel on Tuesday and down 5-0 after three innings on Thursday, Harrell Auto Electric rallied to score nine runs in the final three innings to win 9-6 and claim the Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Department’s Mite League girls softball championship.

Softball resumes
With longtime umpire James Stancil looking on, M&M Diesel first baseman Sarah Harrell awaits a throw in a recent game. M&M Diesel was leading Harrell Auto Elecric 4-0 in the third inning on Tuesday at the Jim Buck Goff Recreation Complex when the game was suspended by a bad weather. The game will be completed today. If M&M Diesel defeats Harrell Auto Electric and also wins over Park Regency in a second game tonight, it will win the Mite League championship.

Four more members of the 2011 Colquitt County High football team have signed to continue their careers and number of the 2012 Packers are already receiving college offers.
