MOULTRIE —
MOULTRIE — Former Colquitt County High head football coach Jim Hughes will be the keynote speaker at Saturday’s annual Kickoff to Men’s Health Event in Tifton that will feature Region 1-AAAAA coaches speaking about their teams’ prospects for the 2010 season.
The event will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the UGA Tifton Campus Conference center just off Exit 64 on Interstate 75. The program featuring the region football coaches will begin at 10 a.m.
The event is free and the public is urge to attend to take advantage of free health screenings, high school football talk and free tail-gating food.
The event is sponsored by Tift Regional Medical Center.
The master of ceremonies of the program will be Chris Beckham, who is the host of the Triangle Furniture Footbal Friday Night radio program.
Those expected to be on hand will be Rush Propst of Colquitt County; Ken Eldridge of Coffee; Jay Walls of Tift County; Rance Gillespie of Valdosta; and Terry Quinn, Lowndes High assistant head coach, who will be standing in for Vikings head coach Randy McPherson.
Hughes coached in Region 1 in the state’s largest classification — first Class AAA and then Class AAAA — from 1970-1999, winning three state championships.

Paradise Pool and Patio completed an undefeated season by beating Southwest Georgia Bank 13-6 on Thursday to win the Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Department’s Farm League tournament championship.

Harrell Auto Electric rallies to claim Mite girls championship
Trailing 4-0 when weather stopped its game against M&M Diesel on Tuesday and down 5-0 after three innings on Thursday, Harrell Auto Electric rallied to score nine runs in the final three innings to win 9-6 and claim the Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Department’s Mite League girls softball championship.
