MOULTRIE — The Moultrie YMCA’s MG Level 3 and 4 teams traveled to Albany on Saturday, January 23 for the Outlaw Invitational hosted by In Bound Gymnastics and their hard work showed when they set 25 personal records and recorded 12 “9s.”
The meet was the first of 2010 for the MGs.
The level 4 team started the day off for the MGs by scoring a 106.20, placing the team in first.
Ashley Haynes led the team breaking personal records on beam, floor, and all around.
Haynes placed first on vault, 9.25; bars, 8.30; beam, 8.95; floor, 9.00, and all around, 35.50 for the 13-14 year old age division.
“Ashley really shined at the meet today. She was confident and clean in her routines,” said Coach Elizabeth Harrington.
Also competing in the 13-14 age division was Amber Clifton. Clifton placed second on vault, 9.10, bars, 8.20, beam, 7.70, floor, 8.80, and all around, 33.20.
Lillian Fagan contributed four scores to the team score and placed first on all events and all around for the 8 year old division.
Fagan scored a 9.20 on vault, 8.40 on bars, 8.50 on beam, 9.25 on floor which was a personal best, and a 35.35 all around.
Katie Galphin joined Fagan on the podium placing second on vault, 8.30, bars, 7.75, beam, 7.50, floor, 7.90, and all around, 31.45.
Taylor McCord had a solid competition, placing first on bars, 8.70, beam, 8.35, floor, 9.00, and all around, 34.50 and received third on vault with an 8.45 for the 9-10 year old division.
Jasmine Moses, also in the 9-10 year old division, placed first on vault, 8.95, third on bas, 8.05, and second on beam, 7.95, floor, 8.45, and all around, 33.40.
Also competing in the 9-10 age division was Kelliann Howell.
Howell received second place on vault, 8.85 and bars, 8.20, and third place on beam, 6.95, floor, 8.15, and all around, 32.15.
Parker Baker was on top of the podium for the 11 year old division. Baker received first on vault, 8.95, bars, 8.40, beam, 8.45, floor, 8.80, and all around, 34.60.
Lauren Coop shared the first place spot with Baker on beam, 8.45 and received second on vault, 8.60, bars, 8.20, floor, 8.50, and all around, 33.75.
Abbie Galphin placed third on vault, 8.45, bars, 7.60, floor, 7.30, and all around, 31.05, and received second on beam, 7.70.
“Overall it was a good day for the level 4’s,” Harrington said. “Our routines could use some polishing before the next meet.
“This meet is a good warm up meet for the girls to get back in the swing of competing.”
The level 3 team placed second with their highest team score of the season, a 107.20.
Brooke Porter broke her personal record on beam, 9.45 (first) and led the team with a 36.80 all around (first).
She also received first on vault, 9.0, bars, 9.10, and floor, 9.25.
Not far behind Porter was Kari Hardigree, breaking personal records on bars, beam, floor, and all around in her best meet as a level 3.
Hardigree placed first on vault, 9.00, beam, 8.85, floor, 9.15, and all around, 35.70 and received second on bars, 8.70 in the 8A age division.
Ashlyn Faucett, 8A age division, had a personal best meet, breaking records on vault, bars, floor, and all around.
Faucett placed third on vault, 8.55, bars, 8.40, floor, 8.55, and all around, 33.75, and received fourth on beam, 8.25.
In the 8B age division, Emily Chapura broke a personal record on bars with an 8.00 for third place. Chapura received fifth on vault, 7.80 and all around, 31.95 and 6th on beam, 8.50 and floor, 7.65.
Morgan Gilbert joined Chapura on the awards stand placing fourth on beam, 8.55 and floor, 8.30, both of which were personal records.
Gilbert also placed sixth on vault and all around.
Kaitlyn Hart, in her first meet ever, had an excellent day. Hart placed first on vault, 8.80, fourth on bars, 7.75, and third on beam, 8.70, floor, 8.70, and all around, 33.95 for the 9 year old division.
“Kaitlyn did a great job avoiding first meet jitters and handled the pressure of competition well. With one meet under her belt, I am sure that the next will be even better,” said Coach Harrington.
Makenzie Smith had a successful day, breaking records on bars, beam, floor, and all around.
Smith placed third on vault, 8.25, first on bars, 8.30, and second on beam, 8.80, floor, 8.50, and all around, 33.85.
“It was an extremely successful day for the level 3’s,” Harrington said. “They have been working so hard on perfecting their skills and it is really starting to show.
“I can’t wait to see what progress is made at their next meet.”
The girls will travel to Tifton on February 20 for their next competition.
“A lot of routines will be worked over the next few weeks so that hopefully we can work out the kinks and bring home some more gold medals,” Harrington said.
