MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County Sliders held off a Crisp County sixth-inning rally to take a 10-9 victory in the GRPA District III 10-and-under girls machine pitch softball tournament championship game in Cordele on Thursday.
The victory sends the Sliders to the GRPA state tournament, which will be played July 9-11 in Vidalia.
The Sliders swept their four District tournament opponents, defeating Worth County 11-3 and Tift County 9-3 on Monday and Crisp County 17-4 on Tuesday.
Crisp County advanced in the losers bracket to the championship game and nearly forced the Sliders to play an “if” game on Thursday.
The Sliders led 6-0 after two innings before Crisp County scored three runs in the top of the third.
But the Slider matched that outburst with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third and added a single run in the fourth.
Trailing 10-3, Crisp Conty scored two runs in the top of fifth and four more in the sixth before the Sliders were able to get the final out.
Kallie Gay had two doubles and scored a pair of runs for the Sliders in the championship game.
Dakota Baker had a double and a single and scored a run and Amber Kling had two singles and scored two runs.
Reagan Goforth and Sydnee Dalton each ahd two singles and scored a run each.
