MOULTRIE — Colquitt County won its opening game in the GRPA Senior Girls state tournament on Thursday in Seminole County, beating Jones County 15-0 in three innings.
The team’s second game on Thursday — against Wilkinson County — was scheduled to begin at 7:30, but did not start until 9:30 p.m. after the Wilkinson County-Berrien County game went 13 innings.
The result of the Colquitt County-Wilkinson County game was unavailable at press time.
The winner will play Vidalia in the final winners bracket game at 10 this morning.
The championship game in the eight-team, double-elimination tournament is schedule for noon Saturday.
Hannah Hancock pitched against Jones County on Thursday and did not allow a hit.
She faced 11 batters, striking out five. Only two batters reached: one on an error and another who was hit by a pitch.
Aubrey Perryman and Meagan May were each 3-for-3 for Colquitt County and each scored three runs.
Perryman had a triple, a double and a single. May had a double and a pair of singles.
Hancock, Brooke Hood, Kaley Clark and Jana Harvin each scored two runs.
Each of Colquitt County’s 11 players scored at least one run.

Trailing 4-0 when weather stopped its game against M&M Diesel on Tuesday and down 5-0 after three innings on Thursday, Harrell Auto Electric rallied to score nine runs in the final three innings to win 9-6 and claim the Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Department’s Mite League girls softball championship.
