Swimmers fourth in Packer Invitational

MOULTRIE — Caroline Rogers scored 33 points and Connor Walsh added 24 to lead the Colquitt County swim team to a fourth-place finish in the Packer Invitational held Saturday at the Albany State University pool.

Lee County was the combined team winner in the meet, which drew swimmers from nine schools.

Lee had the highest girls team score and Coffee had the highest boys team score.

Lee finished with 877.50 points, while Coffee had 745.

Tift County was third overall with 417 points, followed by Colquitt County, 393; Americus-Sumter county, 369.50; Bainbridge, 349; Ware Dounty, 263; Lowndes, 21; and Albany 18.

Colquitt County had the fourth-highest girls score, a 218, and the fourth-highest boys score, a 175.

Sunnie Chason of Bainbridge, Megan Schoenberger and Haley Kerry of of Lee County and Karina Malmquist of Americus-Sumter County each had 40 points to lead the girls scoring.

Rogers, the Colquitt County senior, was just seven points off the pace. Amy Peek, also a senior, scored 26 points for Colquitt County and freshman Samantha Price had 25.

Junior Kara Dobbs also had a strong meet, scoring 20 points.

Staci Repass had seen, Amber Phillips contributed six and Aubrey Perryman had three.

Coffee’s Jad Fussell and Americus-Sumter’s Matthew Self each had 40 points.

Walsh continued his fine sophomore season by scoring 24 points.

Colquitt County senior Chris Phillips added 16, freshman Landon Bass ha six, senior Clark Coleman had four and freshman Ethan Sobalvarro had one point.

The top eight finishers in each event scored, with the winner getting nine points, the runner-up getting seven and other other finishers receiving six, five, four, three, two and one point.

The points doubled for relays.

The invitational was being held for the fourth time and 10 meet records were set.

Chason set two records, winning the girls 500-yard freestyle with a 5:54.54 and 200-yard freestyle wiht a 2:10.55

Coffee High set meet records in the boys 200-yard medley relay and the boys 400-yard freestyle relay. The Lee County girls set meet records in the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Colquitt County is preparing for the Jan. 31 Region 1-AAAAA championships.
