Middle school wrestlers win two

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County middle school wrestling team continued its early season success on Thursday, defeating Bainbridge and Hahira at the Pineland gymnasium.

Colquitt then finished second in the 14-team Viking tournament last Saturday.

After Hahira defeated Bainbridge 77-21 in Thursday’s first match, Colquitt County defeated the Bearcats 65-6.

The Packers got 10 pins in the match got go along with a decision by Anderson Glenn.

Getting those pins were Johnny Ward, Hudson May, Garrett May, Charlie Zeanah, Ian Ramos, Quan Henry, Quan Williams, Travis Register, John Gray and Dalton Dillon.

The victory over Hahira was closer, with the Packers winning 45-26.

Glenn, Ward, Garrett May and Hudson May each got his second pin of the evening.

Kiarron Hendry, Hart Sumner and Nicholas Amadore also had pins.

Williams got the Packers’ other three points on an overtime decision.

“I was real pleased,” said Colquitt County middle school coach Brian Saturday. “We’ve got 32 kids and 23 of them are brand-new.

“But this is a very aggressive team. They really get after it and they wrestle with a lot of heart.”

The middle school Packers will be off until Thursday, Dec. 4, when they will travel to Bainbridge. They will be back at the Pineland Gymnasium on Dec. 8.
