Crush still alive in state tournament

MOULTRIE — After dropping its Georgia Recreation and Parks Association state tournament opener on Thursday, the Colquitt County Crush 10-and-under all-stars have rallied to win three straight losers bracket games on Friday.

The Crush will face Cedartown at 10 this morning in the machine-pitch tournament, being held in Waycross.

The Colquitt County-Cedartown winner will advance from the losers bracket to face undefeated Wayne County at noon in the championship game.

The if game is scheduled for 2 p.m.

It was Wayne County that dealt the Crush its tournament-opening defeat by a 15-4 score on Thursday afternoon.

In its first losers bracket game on Friday, the Crush defeated host team Ware County 4-2.

Diana Durham and Amber Kling each had two hits and Kerri Owens had the other Crush hit.

Durham scored twice and Owens and Paris Sumner each scored once.

The Crush next eliminated Walton County by a 3-2 score.

Chazmin Singletary led the way for the Colquitt County team with a double, a single and two runs scored.

Hayli Spradley scored the other run. Madison Robinson added a double and Kling had a single.

In its third game of the day, the Crush needed double overtime to oust Lyons 13-8.

The game was tied 5-5 after six inning and 7-7 after seven before Colquitt County scored six runs in the eighth inning.

Robinson led the way with three singles, a double and three runs scored. Singletary had three singles and scored three times.

Durham had two hits and scored twice and Owens and Christy Crosby each had two hits and scored one run.

Spradley, Kling, Nikki Johnson, Paris Sumner and Alex Gibbs each had one hit. Johnson, Gibbs and Christin Hunnicutt also scored runs.
