Moore wins on 3-meter for Georgia

MOULTRIE — The University of Georgia’s Hannah Moore scored a 276.15 to take first place on the 3-meter springboard on Wednesday in her first collegiate meet as the Georgia swimming and diving team swept the University of North Carolina at the Gabrielsen Natatorium.

The freshman from Colquitt County High and Moss Farms Diving was fourth in the 1-meter event, just six points out of first place.

Also diving for Georgia on Wednesday were Natalie Thomas, who was third on 3-meter and seventh on 1-meter, and Lexie Bryant, who was sixth on both boards. Georgia’s Chris Colwill took first place on both boards in the men’s event.

The Georgia men won 167-133. The Lady Bulldogs won 171-121.

Moore is part of what College Swimmming.com calls the best nation’s best freshmen class.

The Lady Bulldogs flew to Arkansas for a meet on Friday.

n Moultrie’s Daniel Garcia, 16, who has played soccer for Colquitt County High, has been accepted at the IMGA Academies in Bradenton, Fla., and is training at the soccer academy.

IMG Academies is the world’s largest multi-sport training and education cam/academy.

Spread out over 300 acres in Bradenton, Fla., the IMG Academies complex encompasses the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy, he David Leadbetter Golf Academy, the Baseball, Basketball, Soccer and Officiating Academies the Professional Fishing Academy, the International Performance Institute, the Pendleton School, The Wellness Spa and the IMG Academies Golf and Country Club.

n Colquitt County High will play host to the Second annual Colquitt County Roundball Classic on Dec. 27-29, at the Gladys Espy Memorial Gymnasium.

The eight boys teams scheduled totake part are Woodlawn High of Alabama; Westside-Macon; Monroe; Westover; Lee County; Loris High of South Carolina; Coral Reef High of Miami, Fla.; and Colquitt County High.

The girls teams entered are Albany; Westside-Macon; Monroe; Westover; Lee County; Savannah; Dougherty; and Colquitt County.
