MOULTRIE —
Colquitt County’s Parker Hardigree took first place with plenty to spare in the Westminster Junior High Diving Invitational, held Friday at the Westminster Schools in Atlanta.
Hardigree scored a 252.30, to finish far in front of Westminster’s Charlie Green, who had a 230.65 in his home pool.
“It was pretty much his meet,” coach Ed Goodman said of Hardigree. “He did real well.”
Kelliann Howell was fourth in the girls meet, turning in a score of 200.0.
“That was 60 points better than the score she had in this meet last year,” Goodman said.
Sarah Harrell finished 10th in just her first middle school meet, earning a medal with a score of 141.55.
“She’s still learning how to compete,” Goodman said. “But she was real solid and has a great future ahead of her.”
The middle school team will compete again next month in the state championships at Marist.
Goodman said Hardigree will be a favorite in the boys meet and that Howell has a shot at improving her finish.
“We hoping Kelliann can dive a little better,” Goodman said. “She could be in the top three.
“She’s been improving by leaps and bounds.”

11 Colquitt County players named All-Region in soccer
Six members of the Colquitt County boys soccer team and five from the girls team have been included on the All-Region 1-AAAAAA team selected by the league’s coaches.

YMCA flag football champions
R.B. Wright Team 2 defeated Odom in championship game to win the Moultrie YMCA’s Elementary School Sports League flag football title. State champion flag football team
Colquitt County won the gold medal in the Senior/Master Traditional Flag Football competition at the recent 2013 Special Olympics Georgia State Summer Games last weekend. Colquitt County defeated Gwinnett County 26-0 in the opening round and defeated Gwinnett again in the championship game 24-0.
