Arts for the Community at Thomas University presents award-winning pianist Christopher Atzinger at noon on Friday, Jan. 25, in the chapel of the Thomasville First United Methodist Church at 425 N. Broad St.
Atzinger is on the piano faculty at St. Olaf College in Minnesota, and the program will include works by Beethoven, Danielpour and Theofanidas. He has a reputation for excellence throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, and is a medalist of the Cincinnati, New Orleans, San Antonio, Shreveport and Seattle international piano competitions.
As a collaborative artist, Atzinger also won First Prize at the Sydney Wright Memorial Accompaniment Competition. In the spring of 2012, he was awarded a $25,000 McKnight Fellowship for Performing Artists.
As guest soloist, Atzinger has appeared with a wide range of orchestras. His recital performances have been heard in the finest halls of New York City, Chicago and Washington, D.C. Festival appearances include the Banff International Keyboard Festival, Brevard Music Festival, Bridge Chamber Music Festival and the Chautauqua Institution.
Atzinger holds degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and University of Michigan. He earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University.
