VALDOSTA —
More than 170 works of art, created by adult artists from 18 different states, were submitted for the Valdosta State University Fine Arts Gallery’s Valdosta National 2013, an all-media juried competition.
For the exhibition, which opens with a reception and an awards ceremony at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 14, Margaret Morrison, an assistant professor in the University of Georgia’s Lamar Dodd School of Art, selected 53 works to be featured and compete for some $1,500 in awards. The exhibition, sponsored by Citizens Community Bank, will continue through Friday, Feb. 1.
Julie Bowland, Department of Art professor and Fine Arts Gallery director, said that the “annual national juried exhibition showcases a multitude of media, styles, and sensibilities from across the nation. The show includes everything from video installation to more traditional forms of drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking, sculpture, assemblage, photography, and even handmade book art. It is a wonderful indication of the diversity of contemporary art ….”
The VSU Fine Arts Gallery is located on the first floor of the Fine Arts Building, at the intersection of Brookwood Drive and Oak Street. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays.
