Rant and Rave for 12/20/12

MOULTRIE — Real killers

“Let's not fear things that are shocking but rare. Over the past 15 years, fewer than 500 Americans have died in school shootings. More people die every month from obesity than crazy killers. Let's focus on the real killers."

Arm teachers

“Why do you think the coward shooter in Connecticut went to an elementary school and not a police station? Cowards choose the most vulnerable in order to take as many lives with them as possible without confrontation. Dr. DePaul said arming teachers in Colquitt County is out of the question. Why? We can’t afford extra security at each school, so arming teachers makes sense.

"Make it teacher’s choice, you’ll have more volunteers than needed. Keep firearms to a reasonable number, and secure them in small, quick opening safes so there are no mishaps. And keep the number of armed teachers at each school confidential. Airports, sporting events, numerous places have armed security. Yet, when it comes to our children, it’s out of the question? Maybe it shouldn’t be left up to Dr. DePaul."

Weak points

“I can understand the security concerns that need to be addressed in our schools, but I think you should wait until you're in the right audience to point out exactly where and what they are! Now everyone that reads the paper knows about those weak points."

Security

“It's really sad when people post on rant and rave what doors are accessible at the local schools. Instead of giving someone some ammunition, contact the superintendent and let him be aware."

One more time

“Let’s go over this one more time. It’s not rocket science. It’s not even basic science. Don’t leave your valuables in plain view in your car. If you must leave them, secure them in the trunk. Learn from others’ mistakes."

Not the place

“Yes the schools need to look into their safety plans and up date as needed but it is better not disclosing all the easy ways to permeate the schools within The Rant & Raves! All you are doing is empowering those with evil intentions to make a plan! Choose your words carefully!"

Applause

“Thanks to all participants! What a blessing to hear the Colquitt County Men's Choir, CCHS Serenaders, and CCHS Sr. Men's Ensemble....truly an inspiration to worship our King!"

Terrorism

“We are coming to learn that domestic terrorism is just as devastating as international terrorism. The results are the same ... carnage. Let us offer our prayers for those families in Newtown who must face the worst Christmas of their lives. We can’t begin to imagine the pain they are feeling."
