Rant and Rave for 11/17/12

MOULTRIE — The reason why

“With at least three coaches at the high school who don't teach a single class and nine PE teachers at the junior high, it's no wonder the class sizes at the elementary schools are so high and the school system can't afford to keep the fulltime assistant principals at the elementary schools. Maybe the board of education should ask some questions and make some touch decisions."

Magnet school

“Why is Dr. Yearta so intent on starting a magnet school at the Art Center? Taking the gifted students from our smaller, community schools will reduce the number of students at the schools and lead to reducing the number of teachers. It will eventually be to expensive to keep them open. We all know what's next.... making schools share a principal and then closing our community schools!"

Applause

“Congratulations to Stephanie Terrell, Ga Assistant Principal of the year-you are most deserving of this award. Colquitt County is proud of you."

In response

“Enjoyed the letter from Mr. Chafin a couple days ago pertaining to the Packers. Just a couple of important things to add. The Pack beat Valdosta in 1963 32-0 and the Wildcats were in their "glory years" then. I happen to have a list of the rest of the seniors from that team who graduated in 1964, and they deserve recognition also. They are Joe Linder, Jay Cranford, Bobby Ricks, Eugene Rabenstein, Ronnie Herrod, Buddy Taylor, Huey Lastinger, Tommy Sumner, and Bobby Knight. BTW, Tommy Bradberry was a junior that year, not a senior as previously noted in the letter."

Takers/makers

“The reason Obama won re-election is the takers now outnumber the makers. Slowly but surely they are using their majority to pillage the makers and redistribute to the takers. In the process, they will destroy the sources of the country's wealth and end the American experiment forever."

Anything else?

“Ok, I’ll agree. Football is king. Long live the king! Anything else you want to confirm?"

Foul language

“I am a Colquitt County resident that sat on the visitor side at the game last Friday night. I have a grandson who plays for the Camden Wildcats. I am ashamed of the foul language and ugly gestures that came out of the Colquitt County fans as the Camden fans walked out of the stadium. We are adults and should act like it. We wonder why our children have no respect for others!"

Negative comments

“I was part of the group who attended the community input meeting several weeks ago regarding the school system. There were lots of negative comments about the system's current leadership and the gifted program. When will we learn how those issues will be addressed?"
