Rant and Rave for 02/07/13

MOULTRIE — Cheap labor

“A once booming construction trade collapsed using cheap foreign labor. Are farmer's going to travel that same path? Money leaving America is not progress. Once they become prosperous enough, they return to Mexico and grow cheap produce that you cannot compete with, you are financing your own competition."

Fund raising

“Every school club or team from kindergarten through high school does it’s on fundraising without regard for what all the other clubs and teams are doing. This results in the parents, businesses, and greater community being solicited relentlessly by far too many groups. The group that should put a stop to this problem is the school board, but they proved they don’t care when they allowed the booster club to be disbanded, causing every high school sport to form their own fundraising club thus exacerbating the problem."

Noble idea

“I just read Mr. Rogers’ commentary on term limits. Dedicating himself to this cause is certainly noble but the reality is that the force required to break this self-serving inertia is so great, our apathetic public doesn’t have the starch for it. I think someone earlier on this page gave the best analogy. It’s an urban legend no smaller than Bigfoot."

Think twice

“Thinking a reverse mortgage is  a good idea for getting some cash? It may not be, says an article in the  AARP Bulletin, Tax Free and Other Catnip, written by Jane Bryant Quinn. A Google search for the title will bring it up."

Our condition

“Police chiefs are hired (support stronger gun control), sheriffs are elected (typically don't support)" That tells you exactly where the electorate stands."

Gun issue

“I’m approaching 70 years on this earth. And who would have thunk it. To this point I have not owned nor needed an AK47 rifle. I guess I’m special."

Perspective

“The high school needs to be more worried about drugs on campus instead of a few boys going to Chic-Fil-A for lunch. How about rewarding students for a job well done with a day off campus for lunch? Then you wouldn't have to worry about so many trying to skip lunch!"

Selling fear

“You are right about selling fear. It’s a lucrative business. In a capitalist society that’s one of the opportunities for revenue sources, even though it seems a malignant thought process. The only defense is public intelligence. And apparent there are gaping holes in that dynamic as well."

Applause

“Applause to Matt Friedlander for giving away dogwood trees!"

Should the Boy Scouts accept gay members and/or leaders?

No. Homosexuality goes against Scouting's moral foundation.
Allowing youth members is OK, but not leaders.
