Rant and Rave for 12/08/12

MOULTRIE — Your complaint

“To the county employee: You have a right to complain? Talk to some people in the private sector. You might be surprised what you find out about raises and insurance costs."

Not a waste

“Gifted meeting was a waste of time? Being asked to complete a survey and get a better understanding of the direction the gifted program is taking is a waste of time? Is one hour for your child's education a waste of time? Hardly. I can tell you what is a waste of time...my child sitting in class day after day without being challenged. Be glad that the board is trying to provide a better option for your child."

It's enough

“I am an accelerated student at WJW. I have heard about the comment in the Rant and Rave about whether we get enough work or not, and whether it is challenging enough for us! I have to take 8th grade classes, in 7th grade! If this is not enough, I am constantly pressured by my teachers, my parents, and other people I know to only make good grades.

"The work is hard. I admit it. I have to study for things that I thought would be pretty easy. I can't believe someone who doesn't do my work everyday, has the nerve to say we don't get enough work. Please, join our classrooms, and when you leave you will have a different thought. The work is more than enough! Thanks."

Comparison

“17.6% Hispanic population ------- what is the adult to children ratio? That 'math' needs to be incorporated into the game if someone wants to prove a point.

"It's not just apples in a barrel, it's also the number of big apples and little apples in there too!"

Minorities

“What is happening to the number of minority teachers and administrator within the Colquitt County School System? One leaves and they are replaced with a white. Stop saying they can't find qualified minorites to fill vacancy when they can get hired in other counties. So what is the problem?"

Norquist?

“Who elected Grover Norquist to Congress? Funny, I did not see his name on the ballot! Last time I checked members of Congress answered to us..Oh I meant the lobbyists!"

Long way to go

“To the ranter who wrote about the classes divided by race. This will continue to happen in Colquitt County Schools. Only when the people of other races become more involved in the schools and demand better for their children.

"Colquitt County still has a long way to go when it comes to race. I have seen it over and over in the schools. Wake up minority parents and demand better for your children.

"This also is intended for poor white parents too. Colquitt County will remain in the 60's."
