Rant and Rave for 11/09/12

MOULTRIE — Really, Mr. Morris

“Just read Dick Morris’ column. Basically he’s saying that Hurricane Sandy was why Obama got elected. So let’s see now, an act of God put Obama back in office. To the fundamentalist that must be interpreted that it was God’s will. Ain’t that something?"

In response

“Geez Mr. Driver. After reading your ‘we’re going to hell in a handbasket’ epistle, I was about ready to jump out a window. But in Moultrie we don’t have any buildings that high. So I guess I’ll have to join those who believe that Americans are a resilient lot and we will persevere."

All-Star team

“Tell me please, how an All-Star team with all Colquitt County kids age 8-9, who is playing in a Fall World Series in Brunswick this weekend, against teams from different states, doesn't represent Colquitt County? For your information, we are not a put together travel team. Each kid was chosen from our recreation department teams as All-Stars."

A big issue

“Here's the BIG issue! We can't drop our kids off until 7:30 and they have to be in class before 7:45. Well if they would come up with a better system for dropping our kids off it would be much better. Cars are backed up on South Main on both ends and it's dangerous. Some of us parents have to be to work at 8 o'clock, and having to rush after we drop our kids off. They need a better system."

How we did it

“I just can't understand why people think its up to the city/county to provide entertainment for the teenagers. What are families for? When I was growing up my parents provided "entertainment". I had 8 brothers and sisters and none of us has ever seen the inside of a jail or been in any trouble. My parents spent time with us and we did things as a family. And when we went to a football game, we sat with our parents and behaved. Our friend's parents did the same thing.. Parents should not depend on the city/county to provide what they should be providing."

Lost art

“When I was a kid ... yes, I know you’ve heard that before ... we had none of the entertainment facilities available to kids of today. We made our own entertainment. That required very vivid imagination sometimes, and it didn’t involve drugs. I guess maybe finding something constructive or fun to do (legally) is a lost art."

The socialist

“To all the lazy able-bodied people living off the hard-working taxpayer, you have reason to rejoice. The socialist president has been re-elected. Call your neighbors on your free government cellphone and let them know. But don't expect too much out of him this time. Your vote is all he wanted."
