Rant and Rave for 9/7/2010

MOULTRIE — Deputies

“Yes the deputies might have passed some vehicles with out their lights on they were probably on their way to something important like you if someone was breaking in and your life was in danger think about it."

The ordinance

“The Moultrie City Zoning Ordinance definition of a kennel is any lot or premise where 3 or more dogs at least 4 months old are kept, either permanently or temporarily. Section 4-32 states no kennels will be maintained either for private or commercial use. That means no kennels in the city limits. So, only 2 dogs per premise."

Need a break

“Let the football players have a break! Let them enjoy their weekends without practicing football! They are so tired when it comes Friday that they can barely move. I bet if you do this, we may start winning."

Teachers

“Why in the world would someone be happy for getting rid of teachers for more coaches? That is ridiculous. My child has played sports since he was 4 and I love football as much as anyone, but his education comes first."

In response

“To ‘Sickens Me’: If you have a child in college and they're getting the Hope Grant, at least you're getting some of your tax dollars back from them. But, I can overlook that better than them using EBT to get cash then going to the liquor store."

Applause

“Not to brag, but Lady Packer Softball is off to a good start. They are 9-4 and 1-1 in the region, I do believe. We came in third in the Gold Division this past weekend in Brunswick and first a couple of weeks ago. Guess what? They didn't need a $90,000 a year coach or new turf. Just saying. Come out and support the girls. GO Lady Packers!"

Ice cream

“RE: Ice Cream: I am of an older generation, but Mama always told said if you take treats to school, have enough for everyone. Mama was right. This is just common courtesy."

The fence

“Has that fence been built across the US/Mexican border yet ? I hope so. I'm running out of money trying to support all the illegals. I'd like to be able to buy me a nice steak dinner every once in awhile."

Speeders

“Went through Doerun today, police had one pulled over on the way in and one pulled over on the way out. Very good job guys! You are adding value to our city each day!"

    Dear editor:
Wildlife rehabilitators, or rehabbers as they are known in the animal community, are very special people. They have acquired the knowledge and experience that is needed to work with injured and orphaned wildlife. Licensed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and if caring for federally protected species, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, a wildlife rehabilitator’s ultimate goal is to take an injured or orphaned animal, get it healthy and return it to its natural habitat.

  • Dwain Walden.jpg The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

Remember back in the early sixties when people were digging bomb shelters in fear of the “Big One” being dropped on us? I recall how an alarm would go off at school, and we would get under our desks. What a joke! Get under our desks when one entire wall was glass!

    Dear editor:
What words can be added to so many that have been said in prayer and praise for our Haley?  We have witnessed an outpouring of love and sacrifice for our families, and we truly cannot express our feelings of humility and gratitude.

  • What's at stake here?

    Dear editor
It looks like one of my worst fears is about to happen. With President Obama’s withdrawal of all American troops from Iraq it appears the democratic government we set up in Iraq is getting ready to come apart.  The Shiites and Sunnis are at each others throats and the Kurds and Turkey are already shooting at each other. Iran seems to be paused to take up the vacuum we will be left and obtain a nuclear weapon. In 2007 the Democrats were clamoring for President Bush to get our troops out of Iraq.

Should candidates for county positions have to run for a party's nomination?

No. Political parties are meaningless at this level.
Yes. It helps voters know where they stand on issues.
