MOULTRIE — What works

“If a student makes an effort to behave and learn, then you won’t have the debate about who said what or who done what. Funny how it works that way."

More taxes

“About the new high school. It's called "shove it down their throats and make them like it" politics. Which seems to be the norm these days. And if you own a gun and complain you're a anarchist and a terrorist. Most of us can't afford a loaf of bread but Obama and his henchmen are spending money like there's no tomorrow. Their answer, more taxes. Strange how they're exempt from these taxes."

Need bus service

“We really need that bus service. Not the call-the-night-before business, but routed buses with scheduling. The carless here in Moultrie are at the mercy of unlicensed, undercover taxicab drivers who charge exorbitant fees. A bus service and a taxi service is really needed."

Just wondering

“It may be a little late but I have been wondering just how many furlough days did that trip that some of the school administrators took to Texas cost us? Another waste of money. If administration wants something, it is amazing that funds can be found, but we can't get our furlough days given back."

Failures

“I am not by any means a Bush fan, but you forgot to blame him for the meteor exploding over Russia. Bush was just sitting in the chair when the crash happened. Blame goes to LBJ's HUD act and Carter's Community Reinvestment Act. Forcing banks to lower their lending standards. Another liberal ‘Social Justice’ failure."

Work together

“I am not bothered with the fact you do not like President Obama, for you and anyone else has that right. In addition, I know President Bush caught a lot of crap from people during his' terms, and even in these present times. But, it all comes down to the fact that individuals need to stop the lagging gagging around, and work together."

Download textbooks

“Most every student has a computer at home now! So why can't all school textbooks be downloaded or copied to CD's/DVD's."

You can attend

“You people do know that you can go to city council, county commission and school board meetings and ask questions don’t you? Well, apparently not."

Thugs, beware

“Yes, I’ve seen those shoes hanging from trees and power lines around the community. I’m starting my own gang.

"We may even work on some of those cute hand signs, particularly that one where your index finger curls as in pulling a trigger. So beware thugs. I will protect my family."

  • dwain walden.tif Have you ever tried tricking your brain?

I’ve heard scientists say that we humans use only a tiny portion of our brains. Sometimes I wonder if that portion isn’t getting smaller and smaller. I give you “The Jerry Springer Show.”

  • Our government meetings are indeed people’s business

In the past few days comments in the Rants and Raves column on this page have asked very pertinent questions relative to our involvement or lack thereof in the democratic-republic process.

  • dwain walden.tif 'Hello, sweetie, how can I help you'all?'

I’ve often complained that instead of talking to a robot on the telephone, I would relish communication with a warm body.  Once I even spoke to a janitor who just happened to be passing by the ringing phone. He couldn’t help me with my issue, but it was comforting to know that not everyone in the building had been called in for an IRS audit.

  • Much appreciation

    Dear editor:
On Tuesday, May 14, many graduates were honored with awards and scholarships.
Former Colquitt County High School marketing instructor, Ron Lampman, was an additional honoree. An anonymous donor established a scholarship in Mr. Lampman’s memory.

  • Case for a flat tax

    Dear editor:
American pride and justice in our public revenue gathering service has been damaged beyond repair.

  • A miracle to behold

    Dear editor:
I would like to share a miracle God did in my life and in the life of my family via intercessory prayer.
