MOULTRIE — Delightful
“I read Mr. Walden’s columns in Tifton. Just want to let you know that I look forward to your commentaries. I can always predict the political drivel that the pundits will write. But when it comes to Walden, you never know what he’s going to put out there ... or where the heck it comes from. Delightful."
Respect the office
“It's President Obama, not Mr. Obama, 2 elections won, I think he deserves the title. You don't have to respect the man, you respect the office."
Seriousness?
“The Times-Call editorial suggests that President Obama has failed to show seriousness of purpose in reducing the cost of government. The Times-Call can hardly hang a Do-Nothing Republican House around the neck of this president. The seriousness of their purpose to railroad him at any cost has 800,000 civilian Pentagon jobs at risk from sequester which is only one of many pins scheduled to topple by such means – or more accurately, by lack of ‘ways and means!’"
Poor example
“Did you know that the police had to call off the championship game in the elementary school basketball league last Saturday due to parents, coaches, and other adults screaming and using profanity. You should’ve seen how upset the kids were. What kind of example is set for our children when adults behave this way over a kids’ game? And we wonder why our children act the way they do."
In response
“Going to class and trying to behave isn't always good enough. There are so many ways to get in trouble. Dress codes are interpreted differently by each teacher. A friendly hug forbidden, it's a "public display of affection." A re-fillable drink container in your lunch box must be clear so the contents are visible. Don't take an Advil for your headache without asking the school nurse first....the list goes on and on. Even the hardest working, best behaved child can't do everything right."
Power corrupts
“Yes there are meetings that can be attended. I guess we are naive to think we could elect good people to these positions and not monitor them. Power corrupts. Still haven't heard a valid reason for not building a new Auditorium....other than money. (5 million for Packer Park)"
Trust but verify
“Trust but verify. That’s how we should approach our democracy from the grassroots to the D.C. Unfortunately, we are a complacent, apathetic bunch. We gripe and groan but we don’t go to the meetings, we don’ ask for explanations, reasons and clarifications. We are the problem."
Applause
“Applause to our road crews. When the stuff hits the fan they are out there repairing and rebuilding. We appreciate you."
