Rants and Raves for Dec 8
Sick
“To the ranter breaking a board with a kick or earning a black belt is one thing. Using that skill to break someone's face is sick and there is no place for it.
In response
“Cage fighting at Spence Field. So when is the dog fighting and chicken fighting event set for?
Low mentality
‘You have to realize that cage fighting is a necessary evil in our society. We do have those whose mental capacities require that kind of stimulation. There’s only one way you could keep one of these fans away from such barbaric activity and that would be to require him or her to read a book about it prior to attending.
Cage fighting
“Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full contact combat sport that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques. This means they get into a cage and fist fight until each one is bloody and one is knocked out. What makes it worse is these men are trained in skilled fighting techniques. It is no different that a chicken or dog fight except it is with humans.
Safety issues
“With all the scare about swine flu and the dangers of staph-type infections, why is it that some restaurants still don’t require those who handle food to wear gloves? What part of food safety don’t they understand? Perhaps we should do a survey and post a list of those restaurants who don’t care about public safety.
Not so
“To the person that stated that Cook County's taxes did not go up, you are wrong. I live in Cook County and my property taxes went up over $300 from what they were last year. Thank you for letting me set that straight.
'They say'
“In reference to the person who said some other counties around here didn’t raise taxes to cover the removal of the homestead exemption: You might want to check it out again. It seems like you might be a victim of ‘they say.’
Applause
“I want to rave about the Moultrie Police Department. I saw an officer helping some people change their tire near Spence Field Monday afternoon around 4:30. That's going beyond your job description. Thanks!
The name
“Cage fighting has inherent in its name the mental parameters for enjoying such an event. ‘Cage’ as in animals in a cage. But don’t argue with these people. They can probably find it in the Bible.

Many thanks to my fifth grade teacher
Just a few days ago, my fifth grade teacher turned 99. Andit’s time I paid public tribute to someone who helped keep a redheaded country boy in line as he began to learn how to connect words into somewhat meaningful communication, to appreciate history and to not succumb to math.
